Some players playMagic: The Gatheringto win, creating finely tuned decks that play to the meta, building around things like aninfinite combo involving a god and a robot. But other players, like the popular YouTuber andcontent creator Merchant, have a different idea about how the game should be played.
In a recent YouTube video, Merchant managed to crashMagic: The Gathering Arenanot once, but twice, by creating an absurd amount of goblin tokens. He was showing off a deck that combined the Goblin card Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, with the equipment card Mace of the Valient. When Krenko attacks, he creates a number of goblin tokens equal to his power. Mace of the Valiant increases a creatures power every time a creature enters the battle field. So when Krenko attacks he makes goblins. Krenko was also equipped with Hydra’s Growth, another card that makes him bigger each turn. This combo leads Krenko to grow exponentially.

Had Merchant’s opponent beenrunning any ofMagic’s removal spells, Krenko could have easily been stopped. But because Merchant was playing with a friend, they decided to see how big Krenko could get. The game first crashed after Krenko got to 684 power and the game tried to spawn 684 goblin tokens at once. To put that in perspective, each player starts the game with 20 life, meaning Krenko alone was big enough to kill the opposing player 30 times over.
After restarting the game, Merchant was able to get Krenko up to a whopping 3122 power. This, combined with the over 2000 goblins that had spawned by this point, crashed the game yet again. In the past fans have been upset byArenabreaking due to basic lands, but in the case, they can probably cut the client a break.
While this deck wouldn’t match up with any of thepowerful decks players brought to the Mythic Championship, it’s still pretty satisfying to see one huge goblin leading a massive hoard. Maybe it isn’t optimal, but for some, this isMagic The Gatheringat it’s finest.
