With the Aristotle Dumas identity building up so much mystery over the past six months,The Young and the Restlessspoiling his actor reveal earlier this week might have ruined the twist had the double reveal that he’s really Cane Ashby not saved it.This week’sThe Young and the Restlesswas packed full of twists and new developments. While stories were still happening back in Genoa City, our main focus was entirely on the Nice, France estate of the mysterious Aristotle Dumas.
The anonymous mogul has been pulling plenty of strings over the past few months, becoming a major player without even having to show his face. He clearly invited theYoung and the Restlesscharactersto his estate for a reason, and his reveal promised to be one of the more shocking and delightful reveals in recent memory. Unfortunately,The Young and theRestless’own social media spoiled it for viewers ahead of time.
Billy Flynn Was Already Revealed As Aristotle Dumas Earlier This Week
The Actor Jumped Ship From Days Of Our Lives
Considering that the show has been teasing the reveal of Aristotle Dumas for a solid half year,it was wildly disappointing that the actor playing him was then spoiled earlier this week. In an Instagram post,Days of Our LivesactorBilly Flynn confirmed he was joiningThe Young and the Restlessin the role of Aristotle Dumas. While it was nice to know a soap opera veteran would be taking on the role, it was also more than a little frustrating that the show would spoil the surprise.
It may have been that veteran presence that the show was banking on, hoping the reveal of the well-known soap actor would build hype for this week’s episodes. Even so, it would have been much more shocking and impactfulto have saved the actor’s reveal until this Friday’s episode, allowing the audience to be as surprised as the characters. After so much buildup, it was a head-scratching decision of the show’s marketing to spoil the reveal with just a few episodes left.
The Cane Ashby Twist Saved The Aristotle Dumas Reveal
It Provides An Extra Layer Of Drama
Luckily, as is so often the case with soap operas, there was a twist behind the twist: as it turns out,Aristotle Dumas was actually the assumed identity of Cane Ashby, Lily’s husband and father of their kids who has been missing for six years. Had Flynn simply been confirmed as Dumas ahead of time, it would have been disappointing. However, with the double reveal that he’s actually the long-lost Cane Ashby, it still gave audiences a shock (at least, for those whohadn’t already figured out that Aristotle Dumas was Cane Ashby). And now it gives us an extra layer of drama to sink our teeth into.
Young & The Restless Needs To Do This Story Justice
It’s Been Built Up Too Much To Waste Now
Regardless of how he was revealed, or who he was revealed to be,The Young and the Restlessneeds to do the Aristotle Dumas storyline justice moving forward. It’s been half a year in the making, driving multiple plotlines forward, and it can’t step off the gas now simply because we now know who he is. If anything, the show has to double down and make it even more important to the soap. Cane Ashby’s whereabouts have been a huge open question mark since 2019, the last time the character was on the show (then played by Daniel Goddard, pictured above). We saw him walk off the screen after promising that he’d track down the money Colin had stolen that was rightfully his.
Considering that unresolved storyline, and especially how Cane left his estranged wife, Lily, and their children, he has alotto answer for inThe Young and the Restless. On top of that,it seems that the show is already positioning Cane and Victor as rivals and enemiesin the near future, which is sure to be an entertaining matchup considering Victor’s experience and savvy and Cane’s newfound wealth and cleverness. IfThe Young and the Restlesscan live up to the promise of the Aristotle Dumas setup, we’ll forgive the show for spoiling the reveal.
