UPDATE: Xbox has restored the friends list functionality to Xbox Live, allowing Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S users to access the features like normal. Anyone worried that their friends list had been permanently wiped can rest easy.
Original story follows.
Xbox usersare reporting issues seeing their friends list on Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles as of Wednesday, August 10. The problems seem to have started a few hours ago and are ongoing, with Xbox Support acknowledging the issues and confirming that a fix is on the way. It’s unclear exactly when the problem will be resolved, but hopefully Xbox users don’t have to wait too much longer to have full access to their friends list again.

The problems with theXbox friends listsappear to be different from one user to the next. There are those who can’t see anyone on their friends list, with it appearing completely blank when they go to check. Others can see a few friends, but their full list of friends are invisible. Xbox has not provided any kind of reason for why this is happening, but speculation points to server issues of some kind.
Xbox Friends List Not Working
While it may be frustrating for some Xbox users that they can’t access their friends list, the good news is that Xbox Live in general appears to be fully operational. There have been times in the past whereXbox Live has gone completely down, making it so users were not only unable to access their friends list, but unable to play any games online as well. It seems as though Xbox gamers are able to play games online right now, even though they can’t see their full friends list.
We will update this article as soon as the Xbox friends list issues have been resolved.
