Even with a sequel on the way, Blizzard Entertainment’s team-based shooterOverwatchcontinues to have a wide reach as it cycles through new content and events like theOverwatchSummer Games 2020. Among the fans who have stuck by the game are WWE wrestler Thea Trinidad Budgen, more commonly known by her stage name Zelina Vega, who posted a video of herself changing into an impressive D.Va cosplay today using Instagram’s new Reels feature.

Though this interest may be surprising to some given the WWE advertises Vega as a “ruthless and calculating” wrestler who is “sinister” when it comes to meeting her goals, there are a good many individuals in the program who have outwardly nerdy interests. For example,Paul “Big Show” Wight said he wants to play Kingpin in the MCU, though the cinematic universe already has Vincent D’Onofrio portraying the character of Wilson Fisk in Netflix’sDaredevil.
Overwatch’s popularity as an esport and a casual game for friends has given it a lot of attention since releasing in 2016. Vega is not the only celebrity who has taken the guise of Blizzard’s mech-riding professional gamer on social media, as singer and songwriterHalsey also posted anOverwatchD.Va cosplayearlier this year.
Though D.Va is an especially popular character, Blizzard’s focus on creating a game with lots of unique designs has resulted in plenty of interesting cosplays over the years. Recently, oneOverwatchfan created lightweight animatronic wings with ultra-bright LEDs to cosplay the character Mercy, with impressive results.
Even with this continued interest from fans like Vega asOverwatch 2and other games likeDiablo Immortalare in development, Blizzard Entertainment has received criticism for how it compensates its employees. A report from Bloomberg showshalf of Blizzard employees are unhappy with their pay, with many barely scraping by as higher-level management positions like Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick makes millions.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
