AmongWorld of Warcraft’s17 years and 8 expansion packs, many considerWrath of the Lich Kingto be the height of Blizzard’s MMORPG. One suchWorld of Warcraftfan showed off a new sleeve tattoo featuring a stunning rendition of a val’kyr.
InWorld of Warcraft, the val’kyr are winged warrior women who raise fallen warriors from the dead, much likevalkyries of Norse mythology. Though originally created by Titan Keeper Odyn to raise an army of worthy warriors to protect Azeroth, the Lich King later found a way to create val’kyr of his own to bolster the legions of the Undead Scourge.

The val’kyr in the tattoo is rendered with immaculate detail, from her feathered wings to her deadly spear. BaZukaM had started the tattoo back before the pandemic, and was only recently able to go back and finish it up.

Despite their popularity, the Lich King’s val’kyr are not likely to be featured in futureWorld of Warcraftstories. After the Lich King’s defeat, many of his val’kyr went on to serve Sylvanas–and the Jailer by proxy. Unfortunately, the few who remained were pressed into the service ofthe unpopularShadowlandsvillain, and were all destroyed during the Sanctum of Domination raid inShadowlandsPatch 9.1. While the val’kyr sworn to Odyn still live, the beloved antagonists fromWrath of the Lich Kingnow must live on in the hearts of their fans, old leveling content, and immortalized in ink.
