2025 is set to be a big year forDCas they make a second attempt at a cinematic universe, starting with James Gunn’sSupermanmovie. Well, technically, the DCU started with the animatedCreature Commandosshow, butSupermanwill be the first theatrical release of the new franchise. If the movie does well, it could mean a new era of popularity for DC, which makes it a little strange that a DC game starring a character from the movie will soon be delisted from all platforms.

Now, looking at the game in isolation, it isn’t much of a surprise that it’s being taken down. Still, given the timing,it seems strange that DC parent company Warner Bros. wouldn’t want to at least try to squeeze a few more sales out of itoff the back ofSuperman’s upcoming release. That said, I have my theories as to why this seemingly bad timing might actually be a deliberate move by WB and DC.

DC Game Starring Krypto Is Being Permanently Shut Down

Krypto Will Appear In The New Superman Movie

Krypto the Superdog is set to make his live-action debut inSupermanlater this month. However,a game starring the powerful pooch is set to be delisted soon.DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Aceis a movie tie-in game to the 2022 animated film starring the eponymous animal heroes that will soon be removed for sale from all digital platforms. According toComicBook.com, this is a permanent move that won’t be undone in the future.

The game failed to make a big impression when it came out, and its only two critical reviews onMetacriticdescribe a buggy and repetitive experience. The game is a rail-shooter in the vein ofStarfox, though even that comparison seems a bit too generous given the reception toDC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace. Still, with the game being such a flop, I’m surprised DC wouldn’t want to try and eke out a few more sales off the back ofSuperman.

Krypto’s Increase Popularity Could Have Fueled More Sales

One need onlylook to Rocket Raccoonto know how popular James Gunn’s animal superheroes can become. If Krypto is a similar case, thenone might expect a few fans desperate for more Superdog content might try outDC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace. WithSupermancoming out next week (June 30, 2025), it seems strange that WB wouldn’t just hold out a little longer before pulling the game. However, I can see one reason why this might be the right move.

A lot of big franchises attempt to preserve their brand integrity by tucking away shameful entries in the series.DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Acewasn’t just a standalone failure, but a tie-in to a sub-par animated film whichScreen Rant’s Molly Freeman gave a four out of tenin her review. It’s entirely possible that WB and DC don’t want anyone associating this new version of Krypto with a less-than-super animated film from a few years ago.

At the end of the day, whileDCmay have seen a sale here or thanks to Krypto’s new popularity,DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Acemay have been seen as too much of a risk for the brand’s good name. With a lot riding on the newSupermanmovie taking off, I can understand not wanting to remind anyone of the company’s past failures. Given what I’ve seen of and about the game, this probably isn’t a huge loss.
