Without a doubt, Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference featured a wide variety of game premieres, with one of the more noteworthy announcements belonging to Techland for itsreveal trailerforDying Light 2, the sequel to the 2015 zombie parkour title. Since the project has just now recently been announced, the developer is currently still unpacking all that will be offered in the followup, and many have been wondering if it will contain a battle royale component.

Today, GameSpot spoke with Techland lead designer Tymon Smektala during E3 2018, who stated that the studio is currently keeping its eye on the trend, but thatDying Light 2will incorporate multiplayer in its own way. According to Smektala, “Dying Light 2doesn’t have a battle royale mode…that’s not the thing we are focusing on. But of course we are looking at what is happening on the market, and I think we will have some surprises for people that like to play multiplayer.”

While some will be disappointed to learn thatDying Light 2won’t be including battle royale, the series' universe will still have its own version of the game mode with theBad Blood DLC, which pits several players in a race against time and zombies to acquire enough resources and helicopter out of Harran alive. According to Smektala, his team is working closely with the creators working on Bad Blood and the game is shaping up nicely.

Even thoughDying Light 2will lack battle royale, the sequel itself will likely provide a sumptuous amount of content both at launch and post-release, as Techland supported the original title with a slew of free assets for nearly 3 years after the game’s release. Those who want to get a better idea of what kind of action and features the follow up has would do well to watchthis bit of gameplay right here.

Dying Light 2is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official release date.
