After several years of speculation, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed thatGrand Theft Auto 6will take players back to Vice City. Unlike previous installments that take place in the iconic location though, the game will explore a much larger area than just the Miami-inspired city, extending out intothe fictional state of Leonida, which draws much of its inspiration from the US state of Florida.

As series fans will know all too well, Vice City isn’t the only franchise setting that’s based on a real-world location. Far from it, in fact.Liberty City is based on New York, while San Andreas incorporates elements from both California and Nevada. All three of these locations have appeared multiple times throughout the series, leading many people to wonder where all theGTAgames take place.

With the exception ofGrand Theft Auto 2and its London-themed expansions, everyGrand Theft Autogamehas taken place in one of the series' three main locations. New York-inspired Liberty City has appeared in the mostGTAgames, having served as a location in six of the franchise’s 12 mainline, expansion, and spin-off games to date. San Andreas and Vice City are tied in second place with three appearances each, although the latter will move clear of the former whenGTA 6is released in 2025.
