A new teaser video forWednesdayseason 2 addresses the various Outcast species attending Nevermore Academy, with one new name seemingly solving a mystery about a peculiar group of students. WhenWednesdayseason 2 premiereson August 6, Nevermore Academy will look a bit different fromWednesdayseason 1’s ending. Steve Buscemi’s Barry Dort has taken over as principal after Larissa Weems’ untimely death, and his leadership is bringing a much bigger focus on uplifting Outcasts’ strengths while distancing the school from Normies. Consequently, season 2 is also giving more focus to other Outcast species alongsideWednesday’s psychics.
Teasing what’s in store for Wednesday Addams’ return to Nevermore in season 2,Netflix released a Nevermore Academy “recruitment” videoin which Barry Dort introduces the school, its mission after Crackstone’s attack, and how Outcasts will feel more welcome this year. Netflix’s description for the teaser reads, “At Nevermore, we embrace every Outcast — Werewolves, Vampires, Sirens, Gorgons, DaVincis and more.” While the former four are familiarOutcast species at Nevermore Academy, the “DaVinci” species name was never included in season 1, though it may apply to a mysterious group of established Outcast students.
Wednesday May Have Just Revealed The Real Name Of Nevermore’s “Faceless” Outcast Species
Are They Called The DaVincis?
Among the most peculiar Outcasts inWednesdayseason 1 wasNevermore’s faceless students. They were sporadically seen and rarely referred to, leaving their powers, lore, and even the name of their species a mystery. While the faceless, ghostly nature of the students inspired comparisons to the noppera-bo, a type of faceless ghost in Japanese folklore. However, with that name still being absent from Nevermore Academy’s promotional materials,it looks like the faceless students may go by another name: DaVincis.
If it isn’t referring to the faceless students, then it’s unclear who the DaVincis could be inWednesdayseason 2. Though it’s been teased thatWednesdayseason 2 is expanding on the series’ supernatural elements, it seems unlikely that the show would put so much focus on revealing a new name for a species that has yet to be seen, whereas established species like the faceless students still don’t have a confirmed name. With the faceless students’ nature being abig unanswered question afterWednesdayseason 1, naming them should be a priority for the series’ Nevermore return.
The lack of existing lore expectations gives the Tim Burton show more creative liberty with crafting the DaVinci species’ powers and history.
It also doesn’t help that, unlike the other powerful students at Nevermore Academy, the DaVinci species name seemingly doesn’t correlate to an existing group in supernatural folklore. Sirens, psychics, werewolves, vampires, and gorgons are inspired by real folklore, mythology, and supernatural beliefs, but, much likeWednesday’s Hyde species, the DaVinci group name appears to be original to the series’ lore. However, that originality also works toWednesday’s advantage, as the lack of existing lore expectations gives the Tim Burton show more creative liberty with crafting the DaVinci species’ powers and history.
Wednesday Season 2 Needs To Elaborate On The Faceless Students' Powers
Wednesday Hasn’t Explored What Their Abilities Are
In addition to no official confirmation of their name, the faceless students’ powers still remain a mystery inWednesday. Drawing from the lore of the noppera-bo, it’s assumed that their power is to mimic the faces of other people, though the series has yet to show those students exposing their abilities. If that truly is the faceless students’ power, then the DaVinci species name is fitting. Seemingly inspired by artist Leonardo da Vinci, the name may refer to the Outcasts’ ability to “paint” their faces, with their faces being comparable to a canvas that can return to a blank state.
Wednesday season 2, part 1 premieres on Netflix on August 06, 2025, followed by part 2 on September 3.
Still, what exactly they’re able to do hasn’t been explored on-screen ahead ofWednesdayseason 2. Hopefully, that won’t be the case when the series returns, as there’s plenty of opportunity forWednesdayto utilize these underdevelopedOutcasts’ supernatural powers at Nevermoreas the students continue to battle dangerous forces. Plus, withWednesdayseason 2 leaning more into its horror elements, the faceless students offer some frightening potential.
Wednesday Season 2 Expanding On More Species Other Than Psychics Is A Great Move
Wednesday Needs To Highlight More Of Nevermore’s Outcast Student Groups
In addition to the potential clarification of the faceless students being called “DaVincis,”Wednesdayseason 2 is already set to dive deeper into the various Outcast species. Understandably,Wednesdayseason 1 largely focused on psychicsas the titular character began to learn about and master her own abilities while establishing connections with others in her species. While psychics will still get a big spotlight throughWednesday’s Addams family members, Barry Dort, Eugene, and others, it’s also been teased that Bianca’s sirens powers will get more attention and more werewolves will be introduced alongside Enid.
Expanding what’s known and seen with other Outcast species is a great direction forWednesdayseason 2 to head in, as it helps provide a more well-rounded depiction of Nevemore Academy and the Netflix series’ supernatural world. From familiar species likeEnid’s werewolf packand Ajax’s gorgons to relatively original groups like the Hydes and seemingly the DaVincis,Wednesdayseason 2 should have more variety in the Outcast powers and histories that are addressed than in season 1.
