Netflix has some news about the possibility ofWednesdayspinoffs, and it’s great to hear, considering a significant complaint regarding the upcoming season 2. Though there have been severalAddams Familyadaptations over the years,Wednesdayis easily the most unique since it follows a single member of the family. The Netflix series' success naturally indicates that further, similar spinoffs could be an option.

Of course,Wednesdayis only in its sophomore season, and the wait for this installment hasn’t been an easy one. Season 1 premiered in 2022, so it’s been just under three years since we got that intriguing cliffhanger.

Addams Family at Nevermore in Wednesday season 2

After such a long wait, the announcement for aWednesdayspinoffcould have been just the thing. However, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have explained that their priority is getting season 3 out there, not producing spinoffs.

Wednesday’s Creators Focusing On A Faster Season 3 Release Over Spinoffs Is A Relief

Wednesday’s Creators Say Spinoffs Aren’t The Priority Right Now

“It’s not a priority at the moment because, as we just said, it’s how do we get Wednesday back faster than we did in Season 2? So, we kind of went right from finishing Season 2 to jumping right into developing Season 3. So, it’s sort of all Wednesday all the time at the moment.”

Since Gough and Millar have dived straight intoWednesdayseason 3, we can hopefully expect only a year or two after season 2 drops its two parts on August 6th and September 3rd, respectively, before Wednesday Addams returns to Nevermore. This is excellent news, especially since stars like Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers can only pass as high schoolers for so long.

So, while this means that aWednesdayspinoff isn’t happening any time soon, I’m happy to accept Gough and Millar’s reason. It wouldn’t do the central series any good if attention were split betweenWednesdayand anotherAddams Familyadaptation.Perhaps after season 3, there will be a bit more wiggle roomfor Netflix’s creatives to expand this version of the universe.

Wednesday Getting Spinoffs On Netflix Would Still Be An Exciting Development

When The Time Is Right, The Opportunities Will Be Endless

Though it may not be a priority,Wednesdayspinoffsare confirmed to be a discussion at Netflix. It’s been heavily implied that these would be similar toWednesdayin that they won’t focus on the Addams family as a whole, instead centralizing one or two characters. Whether that would be Uncle Fester, Morticia, and Gomez, or several others, a finalized announcement would be a thrilling development.

Let’s get more Wednesday rolling, and then see what happens next.

Of course, there’s only been a single installment ofWednesdayreleased. For all we know, season 2 will be a massive flop. As exciting as the prospect of more stories of this kind would be, it’s for the best that Netflix is holding off. Plenty of good series have been ruined by creative minds doing too much too fast.
