Bushwacker Has Eddie Brock Freaked Out

Eddie Brock: Carnage #3 by Charles Soule, Jesús Saíz, Matt Hollingsworth and Joe Sabino

Bushwacker is anew villain for Venom and co., but he is by no means a new villain for the Marvel Universe. The Bushwacker has 38 years’ worth of history in the comics, dating back to when he stopped being a priest after watching his church’s attendees fall victim to the drug epidemic. This inspired Carl Burbank to join the CIA, who gifted him a cybernetic arm that allows him to shapeshift it into any number of firearms that are fashioned underneath his flesh. Of course, once he’d been upgraded, Burbank set out as a villain.

Carl Burbank first debuted inDaredevil #248by Ann Nocenti, Rick Leonardi, Al Williamson, Petra Scotese and Joe Rosen in 1987.

Upgrading his cybernetics over the years, Bushwacker hasfaced down the likes of Daredevil, Punisher, the X-Men and even the Hulk. It soon became clear that his ‘tragic’ backstory was just a way to justify his love of violence and carnage for its own sake. While Eddie Brock has killed people as Venom, he did so with the twisted mission to be a ‘Lethal Protector’ for the innocent, while Bushwacker just loves to take lives. While Carnage is a similar kind of psychopathic entity, at least it’s an alien being warped by contact with a serial killer, while Bushwacker is a human who is just as monstrous.

How Does Bushwacker Compare to Other Marvel Villains?

Bushwacker Could Be Marvel’s Next Big Thing, Especially If He Becomes the Next Carnage

Prior to meeting the ex-Venom, Bushwacker was always a B-tier villain and his obscurity in the larger Marvel Universe emphasized that. However, the look of sheer terror in Eddie’s eyes and the bravado of the villain when confronted by Carnage proves that Marvel has been under-valuing Carl Burbank for years. With Carnage considering Bushwacker as a new host if Eddie doesn’t keep it fed,the killer may be on the path to becoming Marvel’s scariest villain- someone who can stop even the formerVenomin his tracks.

Eddie Brock: Carnage #3goes on sale from Marvel on April 23.
