Tyler Booth (Jay Hayden) has been a fun addition toFBI: International, offering a way to develop Wes Mitchell’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) background quickly and effectively. However, the initial appearance in the series seemed to be for a short arc, leading to him choosing to go back to being Stateside, so that he could be closer to his daughter. Then inFBI: Internationalseason 4, episode 17, he returned to aid with a case in Switzerland.
After initially only planning to help with that one case, Wes asked Tyler to stick around for a little bit longer. It looks like the series could be gearing up for someone else to take over the Fly TeamasFBI: Internationalseason 5isn’t happening, and with Tyler around, it hinders the chance of an original and fan-favorite character to take over. As much as Tyler adds a new dynamic, it shouldn’t be at the expense of the best ending for the series.
Why Tyler Booth Returns In FBI: International
Wes And Tyler Work Well Together
The Fly Team headed to the Swiss Alps inFBI: Internationalseason 4, episode 17, to handle an apparent mysterious death. As that case became difficult, Wes had to put some pressure on an ambassador to ensure the deal to extradite the barely legal teen to the United States for a lighter sentence went through.Tyler came to Switzerland to aid with the case, while also offering Wes a sounding board when it came to his dad.
The personal storyline throughout this episode of theFBIspinoffwas Wes learning that his dad was getting a parole hearing. As a victim, Wes would be able to speak out, and after multiple phone calls Wes was avoiding, he finally explained to Tyler the situation. This allowed us to learn more about Wes quickly, as it’s clear that Tyler and Wes have known each other for decades, and Tyler knows the details about Wes’ former home life.
Despite initially leaving to work stateside and be closer to his daughter,Tyler ended up joining the Extraterrestrial Squad because he liked the travel perks, and the international cases with the Fly Team were so exciting. In the end, Wes asked Tyler to stick around for longer, and that’s exactly what Tyler did.
Tyler’s Intent For A Promotion Could Hinder Vo From Taking Over The Fly Team
FBI: International Could Set Up A Race To A Promotion
While Wes hasn’t shown any signs that he is leaving the Fly Team,FBI: Internationalseason 4, episode 19 set up an arcthat suggests this could happen. He recently got news that he has a half-sister back in the United States, andit’s possible that he’ll need to leave his European-set job to help look after her. This would open the door for someone else to take over the Fly Team, and with Tyler there, it now opens up a three-way race for that.
As an agent with more experience than Vo and Raines, it could lead to him getting this position and taking over, preventing the ending we want to see for Vo.
Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) and Andre Raines (Carter Redwood) are already in a race to get a GS-14 promotion, and we know that Tyler is interested in that after being blacklisted for so long due to a previous career decision. If Tyler loves to travel the world so much, he could see a position opening up within the Fly Team and decide to fight for it. As an agent with more experience than Vo and Raines, it could lead to him getting this position and taking over, preventing the ending that we want to see for Vo.
Why Vo Is Fly Team’s Rightful Leader (If Mitchell Leaves)
Out of all theFBI: Internationalcharacters, Vo is the one with the best track record for leading the Fly Team. She quickly became a capable agent under Scott Forrester’s (Luke Kleintank) leadership, and when Jamie Kellett (Heida Reed) left, Vo quickly became Forrester’s No. 2. Then ,as Forrester went dark and was absent, she stepped into the leadership role with no questions asked.
She quickly proved that she had the respect of the team: everyone deferred to her as the leader, something that Tyler doesn’t quite have. Likewise, during the show’s summer break, many fans were hoping she’d become the new leader. Then, in theFBI: Internationalseason 4 premiere, Wes even asked why she wasn’t the one to take over, andshe explained it was because she wasn’t a GS-14 yet. With her looking to gain that promotion, it opens up the chance for her to take over leadership, creating the ending that many have wanted to see happen since she took over temporarily at the end ofFBI: Internationalseason 3.
