For any PlayStation 4 owners who are looking for a new racing game in the vein of2019’sCrash Team Racingand other high-octane titles, Touhou is bringing its 2019 racerGensou Skydriftto the Sony console in March 2021. The release will feature two new stages when it comes to PS4, but it will lose cross-platform multiplayer functionality that is present in Switch and PC versions of the game.
For those who might be unfamiliar, Touhou is a series of bullet hell shoot ‘em ups developed by Team Shanghai Alice since 1997. While the series has released alongside popular racers like thestill-popularMario Kart 64for decades,Gensou Skydriftis the first time Touhou has gone into the racing genre itself.

The two new stages being added to the game are called “Redevelopment Area B” and “Heaven,” which will also be added into the Switch and PC versions when thePS4version is released. On top of that, two additional characters named Alice Margatroid and Rin Kaenbyou are coming to the game. Similar to the fan-favoriteMario Kart: Double Dash,Gensou Skydrifthas the player in control of two characters at one time, so it makes sense that two new additions are coming instead of just one.
UnlikeMario Kart: Double Dashhowever,Gensou Skydrifthas one character standing on top of the other during the race. It’s bizarre, but feels right at home in the Touhou universe. In terms of gameplay,Gensou Skydriftalso shares some elements withDiddy Kong Racing, which never received a sequel, but as far as art style, quirks, and level design go, the Touhou racer is on its own level.
Gensou Skydriftis available now for PC and Switch, and releases for PlayStation 4 on March 9.
