Next week (July 28-August 1) onThe Young and the Restless, a desperate Carter makes an absolutely unhinged decision that threatens to change the lives of literally everyone on the show. This week onThe Young and the Restless(July 21-25), the hunt for Damian’s killer narrowed it down to a few people, but it’s pretty obviously Carter who is the culprit.
On top of an already stressful situation, Friday’s episode for Nick ended with him in critical condition after making a typically idiotic decision and picking a fight with one of the estate’s hulking bodyguards. He seemingly got the business end of a broken bottle, and is currently still alive but busy bleeding out while a desperate Sharon and Billy try to keep him alive.

What’s Happening This Week On The Young & The Restless: July 28-August 1
Oh, Good, Carter’s Gone Completely Insane
The episode synopses are, as always, light on detail, but it’s theYoung and the Restlesspromo trailer for this week that tells the whole story: Carter is a desperate man and he’s about to make the worst decision of his life. Last week, while Damian’s killer wasn’t found, nor had anyone confessed, all signs are pointing to Carter being his killer.
This week’s promo video all but confirms it, as Carter snaps and takes Lily hostage with a gun to her head. As Chance and Cane look on in horror and Cane begs Carter not to make it worse for himself, Carter yells, “It was all for you! And now you want to lock me up?“Y&R’s version ofCluehas been solved: it was the assistant, with the knife, in the garden.

What Big Storyline That We’re Following This Week
Chance May Go Out A Hero
Obviously, the big storyline is Carter going full “It’s all for you!” à laThe Omenat the estate in France for Cane. The question is, will anyone else die?The Young and the Restlesshas been dropping bodies left and right, and it may not stop this week.
A few weeks ago, Cole Howard died of Legionnaire’s Disease. Last week, Damian was stabbed to death, and now, it looks like Nick might also not be long for the world after being stabbed in the stomach after a fight with a security guard. With Carter waving that gun around, it certainly appears as though at least one other person will die.
It’s possible Carter will accidentally shoot his boss to which he is psychotically loyal, but that would be an unlikely turn of events considering Billy Flynn just joinedThe Young and the Restlessas the new Cane Ashby a few weeks ago. Likewise, it would be a strange choice to kill Lily, considering Cane’s unrequited love for his ex has been set up as a driving force in the plot moving forward.
That leaves Chance, and, well, sorry to Chance, but he’s the most expendable here of all the main characters. With his background in law enforcement, it would be completely unsurprising if Chance were to try to wrestle the gun away from Carter or step in the way of the bullet. And, with actorConnor Floyd jumping ship toDays of Our Lives, Chance’s days are numbered.
Lastly, there’s Carter. Carter hasn’t exactly been fleshed-out on the soap opera, instead clearly brought into the story to be a plot-driver instead of a long-term part of the cast. With him not being of sound mind, and desperation and rage making him irrational, there’s a very real chance he could turn the gun on himself, which would be horrible, but extremely throwaway soap opera villain of him.
How This Sets Up Next Week’s The Young & The Restless
Cane’s Life Is About To Be Destroyed
After so many weeks of stagnation, now we’re finally getting to the good stuff with the Cane Ashby vs. Victor Newman and the Abbotts storyline. If Chance does indeed take a bullet for Lily or Cane, then that will have a profound impact on the story and the characters.
Most of the characters have both strong personal and professional connections to Chance, and pretty much everyone at the estate hates Cane right now. At the very least, they don’t trust him. If Carter does kill Chance, Cane will not only lose what little he’s tried to build back, but it’s a guarantee that someone will want retribution they’ll take enact on Cane.
Beyond that, as Victor says in the promo video, it seems Cane has realized he’s lost. Whatever corporate takeover he’s been planning onThe Young and the Restless, it all fell apart the moment Carter threw the knife that killed Damian and then lost his entire mind. It will be interesting to see if Cane rebounds, or if he has to completely rethink his plans – and his life.
