Upon release in 2011,The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimwas a marvelous-looking game, visually appealing with an expansive world of fantasy fulfillment. However, looking back, it’s entirely possible to see that the game has aged a little bit in terms of its graphics, and even the way it plays. But that’s where the modding community can really make a difference. Some of the bestSkyrimmodsalter not just the gameplay or add quests, but they can improve the visuals as well. Naturally, one user wondered what would happen if players added hundreds of visual and audio mods to the game.

In a video uploaded to YouTube a few days ago, Digital Dreams seemingly wanted to putThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimthrough its paces by installing more than 500 mods. The footage in the video shows the game with stunning 4K visuals, including luscious foliage, remarkable detail, and even realistic sounds, such as woodland ambiance. Among other things, there is the Wabbajack modlist, which completely overhauls the visuals, improves appearances for non-children NPCs, and a new weather system courtesy of theObsidian Weathers and Seasonsmod.

On top of all this is Digital Dream’s own ray tracing reshade. Recently, ray tracing has been used on older games likeGrand Theft Auto 3in order to give them a much-needed boost in the lighting department. What this video shows is not only how many mods are currently out there that go a long way to makingSkyrimlook gorgeous, but it also shows that, even ten years on, there is a lot of love that people want to give the game.

The modding community is a busy one. Games likeSkyrimare simply rife for tweaking by fans. While the ones in the video are visual, there are some excellent ones that help to improve overall immersion. TakeOpen Citiesby Arthmoor, which opens the gates of towns and cities to remove loading times, as an example. A decade later and people are still finding ways to improve on Bethesda’s base, yet still epic, title.

Of course, with so many years passing, many fans are wondering when the nextElder Scrollsgame will come around. With Phil Spencer confirming thatit’s unlikelyElder Scrolls 6will be out until post-2023, it’s a long time for people to wait. However, that does mean there is more opportunity for modders to keep tweakingSkyrim, and other games in the series, to pass the time.
