Several newPokémon TCGcards from theScarlet & Violet - Black Bolt and White Flareexpansion have been revealed, but two of them have caught my eye, making them more wanted over all other reveals so far.Black Bolt and White Flareis a new English set of cards centered mostly around Generation 5 creatures, with theBlack Boltpart of the expansion aligned with Zekrom and theWhite Flarebeing representative of Reshiram. Instead of being an English compilation of two Japanese sets,Pokémon TCG: Black Bolt and White Flareare two distinct expansions, although related.
This is the first time an English set will be split into two, like the Japanese ones, as they usually arrive in a single set for the Western market. There will be cards that are exclusive to theBlack Boltexpansion, while others will be found exclusively within theWhite Flareportion.The entire set will feature over 170 cards, and more than 65 Illustration Rare cards. Several of theBlack Bolt and White Flarecardshave already appeared online, but others are still getting revealed.

A set of new cards from theBlack Bolt and White Flareexpansion has been revealed, showcasing several cards in their English version. The cards were shared in a post onPokéBeach. The cards include Volcarona, Archeops, Jellicent ex, Hilda, an Illustration Rare Emboar, and Garbodor.The most iconic cards, however, are the Secret Rare versions of Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex, which exemplify thenew rarity inPokémon TCG, which stems from the arrival of theBlack Bolt and White Flareset. Based on their design alone, they are must-have cards from the collection.
The Secret Rare Zekrom ex features the Legendary Pokémon against a foil black card. This card is solely in black and gray, with even its Type being represented by a gray version of the Electric symbol. Somewhat similarly, the Secret Rare Reshiram ex is highlighted on a white card and doesn’t contain other colors in its design, apart from the ones that shine through the holographic foil.These cards had already been seen in their Japanese versions, but this is the first time they appear in the English versionsforPokémon TCG: Black Bolt and White Flare.

Because of their unique design and approach to the monochromatic aspect of the Gen 5 games, the Secret Rare versions of Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex are easily some of the most enticing in the set.As a fan of the titles set in Unova, these cards that feature the Legendaries are also my favorite ones so far, and will be high on my list of desired cards from the set. They will be difficult to obtain, given their rarity, but hopefully not asimpossible as anotherPokémon TCGcardfrom theBlack Bolt and White Flareexpansion.
Of course, while Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex are easy eye-grabbers thanks to the Secret Rare cards’ unique designs, they are not the only noteworthy cards from the revealed batch.Jellicent ex not only boasts a great piece of artwork, but it also has great gameplay value when put into the right deck. Volcarona is also a strong card to have, but even its standard artwork looks amazing, making fans of the Gen 5 games give some extra attention toBlack Bolt and White Flareamong the manyPokémon TCGsets of 2025.
The Japanese version of the set has already been released, though the English version ofBlack Bolt and White Flarewill be released on July 18. Players and collectors can expect this to be one of the most hyped sets this year because it will feature a high number of Illustration Rare cards, with these versions of all Unova Pokémon. There’s a lot to look forward to with the upcoming set, and the Secret Rare versions of Zekrom ex and Reshiram ex are only a small sign of what’s in store forPokémon TCGwithBlack Bolt and White Flare.
