Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Pitt season 1 finale. The Pittmay be over until next year, but that doesn’t mean that fans have stopped thinking about the show’s most captivating romance yet. The dynamic between Dr. Robby and Dr. Collins is a core element ofThe Pitt, and while the latter was absent from the final few episodes of the season, her impact on the show was certainly felt. She’s one ofThe Pitt’s best characters, and her dynamic with Dr. Robby will surely influence the development of Noah Wyle’s protagonist in future seasons.
AlthoughThe Pittdoesn’t reveal too much about theromance between Robby and Collins, the seeds have obviously been sown for the writers to develop this much more strongly in season 2.Robby had everything stripped from him in the final episodes ofThe Pitt’s first season— first Collins, then Langdon, and finally Jake, setting the stage for his eventual breakdown in the final. It’s clear that Collins offers Wyle’s protagonist some much-needed emotional stability, andThe Pittdoes a great job of explaining why.
The Pitt Brilliantly Establishes Robby & Collins' Romance Over Just The Course Of A Few Hours
The Pair Only See Each Other During One Work Shift
Perhaps themost impressive thing about Robby and Collins’ romance is that audiences are only given a very brief glimpse into their lives(just over ten hours), but their dynamic feels more real and authentic than some TV relationships that have lasted for years. Shows likeGrey’s AnatomyandERare renowned for their ability to craft engaging relationships between characters, but they have the advantage of multiple seasons that all take place over several months. The Pittdoesn’t have this, but it feels just as genuine.
Additionally, much of Robby and Collins’ romance is only told through subtle glances and overheard conversations by other characters. It’s a much less overt romance, but it’s so easy for audiences to pick up on. There’sonly one specific interaction between Robby and Collins that confirms their affectionfor each other (at theend ofThe Pitt’s eighth episode), but Wyle and Ifeachor’s performances make it obvious long before then.
Robby & Collins Getting Together In The Pitt Season 2 Could Actually Work For 1 Big Reason
Their Relationship Would Feel Very Natural
The single-day structure ofThe Pittis one of the show’s biggest strengths, but it also comes with certain restrictions. It would have been unrealistic for Robby and Collins to get together during the chaotic shift of season 1, but there will be a lengthy time jump before season 2, which could be the perfect opportunity to develop their relationship off-screen. When audiences reconnect with these characters, it would make sense for them to have grown closer in the months that have passed, and their rekindled romance wouldn’t feel quite as forced.
