The CW’s top-rated show,Sherlock & Daughter, has just received a big boost. Debuting on The CW in April, the adaptation ofthe iconic Arthur Conan Doyle charactersees the well-known detective team up with a young woman to unravel a conspiracy. But as they work together, there’s also the more personal question of whether he is her father.
Created by Brendan Foley, with James Duff as showrunner,Sherlock & Daughteris led by David Thewlis (Fargo) and Blu Hunt (The New Mutants). It has found an audience on broadcast television, ranking as the CW’s top show. It also performed well on HBO Max in the U.S., remaining in the Top 10.
Varietyreports thatSherlock & Daughterhas sold to a number of international markets. This includes Sky Italia in Italy, Bell Media in Canada, RTS in Switzerland, Nova in Greece, Disney in the Balkans, Tivibu in Turkey, and TV3 Goup in the Baltics. Federation Studios' distribution arm, Federation Intl, is also having discussions about selling to Germany, with Palatin Media leading the charge.
Presales for the period crime drama have included Warner Bros. Discovery in the U.K. and Ireland, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, RUV in Iceland, and Amedia in CIS.

It’s Gaining Momentum
Consisting of eight episodes, all of which have already aired on The CW,Sherlock & Daughterzeroes in on Holmes during a sinister case that he has difficulty cracking. He remains adrift until he meets the young Amelia Rojas, who is dealing with her mother’s mysterious murder. They join forces to get to the truth anduncover whether Sherlock is really Amelia’s father.
With a cast that also includes Ardal O’Hanlon, Fiona Glascott, Aidan McArdle, Kojo Kamara, Joe Klocek, and Dougray Scott,Sherlock & Daughterdebuted to generally favorable reviews. The series has a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, with nine reviews leaning positive and three leaning negative. The audience score is considerably higher, coming at 91%.
Although the show’s creative team has teased theirSherlock & Daughterseason 2plans,the drama hasn’t been renewed yet. Still, with an international push and strong viewership across the board, it may only be a matter of time before more episodes are announced. In the meantime, audiences in more countries have an easier time watching a newSherlockadaptation.

The CW has struggled with how to define its programming slate, under the leadership of Nexstar, since moving away from its teen drama identity.Sherlock & Daughterisn’t a complete fix. But its success does show that the network would do well to invest in it and otherhits likeSullivan’s Crossing,since both contain key aspects of the sort of romance and intrigue the network was once lauded for.
