Universal Studios just got a little bit more exciting, as a new trailer announces the introduction of Super Nintendo World to its Japan location. So far, the park addition seems to be entirelyMario-based, though it’s early days yet so other Nintendo franchises could join everyone’s favorite plumber in the near future.
The trailer, which released on the official Universal Studios Japan YouTube page, shows that the new area will look very similar toSuper Mariolevels, with green pipes and question mark blocks in abundance. Peach’s castle looks to be present, as well as a menacing Bowser fortress that is complete with deadly Piranha Plants.
So far we only have this animated teaser to go off, but further details about what rides and attractions Universal will be hosting are sure to be just around the corner. For now, Super Nintendo World is only launching in the Japan location, but plans are reportedly to bring the area to Hollywood, California, and Orlando, Florida shortly afterwards.
A collaboration was announced between Universal Studios and Nintendo all the wayback in 2015, but this is the first we’ve seen of the combined project. We’re sure that if the theme park proves to be a hit,Super Mariowon’t be the only gaming-themed attraction that fans will find in their Universal experiences.
Super Nintendo World is set to be ready for visitors by the time of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, whereMariowill be making another appearance as one of the worldwide event’s mascots. We’ve already seen the classic character accept the invitation at theRio closing ceremonyand it looks like the mustachioed plumber will be kept very busy in the coming years.
As for more recentMarionews, the highly anticipatedSuper Mario Odysseyfor Nintendo Switch looks to havea November launch, assuming that new rumors can be believed. Although Nintendo has been particularly secretive about this upcoming title, we’re sure to find out more once E3 is in full-swing next week.
