TheNintendo Indie World showcasepresented today was filled with many exciting announcements. Players who tuned in were able to see several brand new games like Toyful Games’Very Very Valet, as well as information regards well known indie darlings finally making their way to the Switch such asSpelunkyandAmong Us.
However, there was one major indie announcement that seemed to take some players by surprise. Team Meat made the announcement thatSuper Meat Boy Foreverwould launch as a timed console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch. Thehighly anticipated sequel toSuper Meat Boyhas been in development for six years and is set to launch next week on December 23.

Players that are familiar with the firstSuper Meat Boygame know thatForeverwon’t be a walk in the park. These violent platformers are extremely difficult, and will likely have some players retrying levels dozens upon dozens of times to complete them. However,Super Meat Boy’s difficultyis precisely why fans love it so much; the intense difficulty makes it much more satisfying when one finally finishes a level.
TheSuper Meat Boygames have become a bit of a classic in the gaming community, and some seem to be taking it as a source of inspiration. Founder and lead engineer of Moon Studios Gennadiy Korol recently went on record saying that the platformer was a major creative inspiration as the team worked onOri and the Blind Forest. Knowing how successful Moon Studios has become over the past few years, it seems like there is a possibility thatSuper Meat Boy Forevercould encourage another wave of new developers.
Super Meat Boy Foreverreleases on December 23 on PC and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and mobile versions to follow in 2021.
