Sterling K. Brown gives an update aboutParadiseseason 2, including the return of a fan-favorite character. Brown stars as Agent Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting Cal Bradford (James Marsden), the President of the United States. The pilot episode reveals that President Bradford was murdered, and follows the fallout from that event.Paradiseseason 2is currently in production.
Paradiseis set in an underground city following a global catastrophe. The threat of armageddon looms before President Bradford sets off an EMP and drives a community underground for safety. It is revealed that some of humanity survived theevents ofParadiseseason 1, including Xavier’s wife.
PerEW, Brown reveals thatMarsden will return as Cal Bradford in flashbacks. Despite his death before the events of the pilot episode, Bradford appeared throughout season 1 with scenes that slowly uncovered the mystery behind his assassination. Brown explains that Marsden will be seen in “different time periods.”
We see a little bit more of Marsden. We get a chance to see him in different time periods. So it’s nice. It’s really cool.
Brown also detailsShailene Woodley joining the cast. While he admits that he cannot share much, he hypes her appearance in the sophomore outing. Check out his quote below:
I can’t say much. I made a friend, that’s really the biggest thing. It’s always great when you hire wonderful people that are good at what they do, but when you actually make a friend that’s even cooler. She’s sweet, honest, open, ready to play, and very professional. I expected all of those things of her. But to have met her and to have played with her in the sandbox, it was everything and more. She’s outstanding.
What This Mean For Paradise Season 2
The Show Will Continue To Feature Flashbacks
Paradiseseason 1 was driven by several mysteries, including who killed the President, and what happened to the outside world. As Xaiver will be pursuing his wife, whom he thought had perished, there was already an expectation that more flashbacks would be utilized to tell her story. However, gettingmore of Cal Bradford is a welcome addition.
Marsden’sCal is one of the best characters of season 1. When audiences are introduced to him, he seems incompetent, brash, and generally unlikable. However, as the season progresses, more about Cal is revealed, and he goes from an unqualified leader to a compelling individual and father.
Marsden’s inclusion inParadiseseason 2 will help connect the new story to what came before and bring back a fleshed-out character. As the story will move beyond the idyllic Paradise community, Woodley being added to the cast should create a different dynamic to the world. While there should not be an attempt to duplicate the beats of season 1, her addition will add a new wrinkle.
The Show Looks To Be Headed In A New Direction

AsParadiseseason 2 will bring Xaiver out into the wastelands in an attempt to find his wife, the show will see a significant shift in its story. The mystery element will still be present, but the primary location and style of storytelling will be different.
Now, instead of trying to piece together who assassinated the President, Xaiver will have to try and find his wife. Brown’sParadiseupdates are exciting as season 2 inches closer to becoming a reality.
