DC’s Stargirlhas cast the role of Alan Scott/Green Lantern’s son and Jennie-Lynn Hayden/Jade’s long-lost twin brother Todd Rice, a.k.a Obsidian. Tim Gabriel —best known for appearances on TV shows likeS.W.A.T,Why Women Kill, and, most recently,Better Things— will portray the character in the series' upcoming third season.
Details regardingStargirlseason 3’s plot as well as its release date remain under wraps, but the news of Obsidian’s introduction doesn’t come as a surprise. The character was mentioned multiple times throughoutStargirlseason 2, as Jade (Ysa Penarejo) was on a quest to find and reconnect with her missing brother.

However,Stargirlseason 3 will mark the first time that Todd appears on-screen. Per Entertainment Weekly, he is LGBTQ+ and possesses a mysterious and uncontrollable set of shadow abilities —much like his comic book counterpart. Todd has also been living on the streets and looking for Jade. Unfortunately, he’s at risk of falling prey to the enigmatic Mr. Bones (Keith David) and The Helix Institute for Youth Rehabilitation, who are set on understanding Todd’s complicated powers.
DC’s Stargirlfollows high school student Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl (Brec Bassinger) as she embarks on a journey to revitalize the legendaryJustice Society of Americaafter learning about the group of fallen heroes led by Starman (Joel McHale). Aided by her stepdad Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), who used to be Starman’s sidekick, Courtney gathers new friends and unexpected allies just in time to fight off new evils in the small, fictional town of Blue Valley.
The first season ofStargirlconsisted of 13 episodes and premiered in May 2020 as part of the DC Universe. Two months later, in July,Stargirlwas renewed for a second season, which debuted in August 2021 exclusively on The CW. A third season was picked up earlier that year, in May. Although an official release date forStargirlseason 3 wasn’t announced yet, the show is expected to make a return this summer.
In addition to Gabriel, the forthcoming season will featureMcHale in a more prominent role. The formerCommunityalum, who spent the past two seasons appearing only in flashbacks, was promoted to series regular in October 2021. McHale shared the exciting news during an appearance onThe Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he also expressed his gratitude to those responsible for his promotion, telling guest host Arsenio Hall, “I’m very happy to be a part of the show.”
DC’s Stargirlis expected to return this summer.
