Although many fans were disappointed with 2015’sStar Wars Battlefront, it seems like EA may be turning things around with the sequel thanks to lots of new features, includinga single-player campaign mode. To get players hooked on the game and coming back for more, it looks likeStar Wars Battlefront 2will be borrowing a familiar system made popular byOverwatch.
Thanks to an extended look at alpha gameplay fromBattlefrontUpdates, fans can now get a closer look at the loot crate system inBattlefront 2. The treasures look very familiar to the crate systems inOverwatch,Heroes of the Storm, orInjustice 2. This method to get players chasing unlockable aesthetic and gameplay perks has been very effective in those other games, so it looks likeBattlefrontis attempting to cash in on the same strategy.

According to the video, the crates can be purchased with credits that are earned simply by playing the game. There appear to be crates rewarded for things as simple as logging in once per day, but we also know thatcrates will also be purchasable through microtransaction. This video does not contain details about the credit prices for each crate or how that would translate to real world dollars and cents.
It looks like the crates can reward at least credits, crafting materials, and Star Cards. The quality of the Star Cards varies based on the rarity of the crate that it came from. As you might expect, the rare crates are more likely to reward Star Cards with rare perks on them. The lower quality the crate, the less exciting the contents will probably be.
There’s definitely a danger that some players may feel frustrated about others buying their way to the best Star Cards, so hopefully the developer has a plan in mind to balance that potential issue.
