Warning: This article contains spoilers for Queen of Tears and Squid Game season 3.One of the stars ofSquid Gamehas revealed that they had much going on the day a pivotal scene was shot, making the final result all the more impressive. In contrast to the first outing, several of the main, named players surviveSquid Gameseason 2’s endingand are left to face additional rounds in the aftermath of Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) failed rebellion in the final season.

One such player is Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon), who previously voted to continue the games to win enough money to pay off debts from her gender-affirming treatment and relocate to Thailand. However, after subsequently watching people die,Hyun-ju seems to be entirely focused on protecting her new friends, especially Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) and Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim).

During an interview withNetflix K-Content,Park Sung-hoon revealed that the day he filmed the scene where Hyun-ju is unexpectedly killed, he also had to film his character’s death scene inQueen of Tears, and described the experience as “emotionally draining.” OtherSquid Gamecastmembers sympathized, nothing how sad the scene was for them as well. Check out Park’s full comments below:

We shot that scene at the studio in Daejeon, and then I went straight to Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, to shoot Queen of Tears, which is also on Netflix. And it just so happened we shot Yoon Eun-sung’s death scene on that very same day. I had to do that in both projects, and it was emotionally draining to do those scenes back to back. There are not many characters in the game that are righteous and selfless like her. So it was sad that Hyun-ju had to say goodbye earlier than expected.

What Park Sung-hoon’s Busy & Emotionally Draining Schedule Means For Squid Game

Despite It Being Emotionally Taxing, Hyun-ju’s Death Scene Is Well-Acted

Hyun-ju’s fate is certainly a shock, and as the actors note, it is particularly painful when she is just steps away from the exitand only makes the short trek back to get Jun-hee, Geum-ja, and the baby. However, all the actors in this scene perfectly portray the devastated and angry reactions, as this is also a moment of great betrayal.

Admittedly, this scene was theoretically easier to film because Park did it first, after that going to film Yoon Eun-sung’s death forQueen of Tears, and dealing with the stress of the events of both shows piling up. Both K-dramas are popular on Netflix, leaving a likely overlap in fans grieving due to Park’s strong performances.

Such is the plight of actors, when sometimes busy schedules mean difficult days like this. But in addition to traveling for a day filming two shows, Park also had to pull off the emotional component of his job. Thanks to his talents,Squid GameandQueen of Tearsdid not suffer because of a packed schedule.

Our Take On Park Sung-hoon Shooting Two Death Scenes On The Same Day

It Sounds Like A Lot For Any Person To Handle

Whenwe are all mourning our favoriteSquid Gamecharacters, the actors have to commit themselves to portraying these devastating events. So yes, filming the death scenes of two beloved characters whom an actor has gotten to know well enough to play sounds like an exhausting day.

Hyun-ju’s death also happens in the extremely stressful Hide-and-Seek episode, rivaling the Marbles games from season 1. While multiple major deaths only happen at the very end of this episode, the cast ofSquid Gamehad to work for days on the life-or-death cat-and-mouse sequence that has us all so stressed out at home, something possibly even more taxing than one scene.
