The sequel is aiming for a 2017 launch, so unfortunately players won’t be able to get their hands on it whenthe Switch arrives on March 3.Splatoonfans can expect new outfits, weapons, game modes, and more. It is also a safe bet that the competitive game will make great use of the newly-announcedNintendo Online paid services. It wasn’t confirmed, but it sounds like users may need to pay the Nintendo Online subscription fee in order to play onlineSplatoonmatches.

Hopefully that increased cost won’t be too high of a barrier of entry for the majority of players. Nintendo joining Microsoft and Sony in paid online services eventually seemed inevitable, so it will be very interesting to see how well the service performs and if joining games with friends becomes any easier for Nintendo fans.

Splatoon 2can be played with the Joycon controller, the Switch pro controller, and players will be able to aim using gyro controls. Local and online multiplayer options will be available, as well.
