Summer is practically here and Marvel Comics is giving fans a peek at what they can expect this July. In Peter’s corner of the world, unfortunately, things could be better asSpider-Man is finally confronting his powerfuland mysterious new opponent, Hellgate.
Details were kept to a minimum, but it’sbeen revealed that Hellgatehas come to destroy Manhattan. Described as “Spidey’s Most Desperate Battle Yet”, Marvel Comics has released the covers of the two-part story’s issues.The Amazing Spider-Man #7and#8both feature Spider-Man fighting Hellgate, and sadly, the mighty villain has poor Peter on the ropes.

Peter Parker is Getting Ready for the Fight of His Life Later This Year
Spider-Man has always faced tough battles but it seems like he’s really experienced an uptick in harrowing events. Just recently he was forced to protect the world from the Scions of Cyttorak after being endowed with power thanks to the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Doom. Though blessed with additional lives,Spider-Man was put through the wringer and even briefly lost confidence in himself. However, he came through and managed to put himself back together, just in time to find a new job at Rand Enterprises working for a friend, which was almost ruined thanks to a sudden attack by the Rhino.
Hellgate has been teased as far back as this January when Marvel gave fans a sneak peek of the villain’s design. Hellgate also briefly showed up during a vision Peter had inAmazing Spider-Man #55when one of the Scions was showing him how futile his efforts as a hero are. After months of teasing, Hellgate finally made his first appearance in the recentAmazing Spider-Man #1, though he’s yet to actually meet Spider-Man just yet. But as these covers reveal,this powerful, new foe is going to force Spider-Man to think outside the box in order to defeat Hellgate.

Sure, the battle is described as Spider-Man’s most desperate fight yet, but he’s faced tough odds and always come out the other side. That being said, the vision he saw was not pleasant, and it showed several of his closest allies, like Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen seemingly slain. It’s not known what kind of power Hellgate has just yet, but it’s clear he’s a force to be reckoned with. Thankfully, Peter has a history of defeating enemies even when the odds are stacked against him, so hopefully, no matter how bad this fight gets,Spider-Manwill come out a winner.
