League of LegendsdevRiot gamesis here to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus. The co-founders and the company are working together to donate a total of $1.5 million USD to help battle the hardships brought about by the pandemic.

Riot Games has been known for its community service. It promotes diversity and LGBTQ+ rights through story telling, gaming, and donations. Its charity fund, called the Social Impact Fund, has “donated over $15 million to more than 25 different causes around the world” according to its website. So it’s no surprise that these diverse and progressive devs are looking to help out the little guy during the coronavirus shutdown, in spite ofmanyLoLevents being canceled by the virus.

Riot Games as a company, co-founder Brandon Beck, and co-founder Marc Merril have come together to donate $1.5 million USD to the Los Angeles area to help fight the effects of the quarantine, job closures, and economic loss. Like theLoLpro Faker who donated to help combat the virus, they are donating to the LA Food Bank, the Mayor’s Fund, meals for seniors, healthcare costs, and providing protective gear.

This is much needed capital for the city’s strained infrastructure; many hospitals and individuals can’t find protective gear like masks and hand sanitizer. According to the LA Times, the number of cases of coronavirus doubles in California every two or three days, which is putting a lot of pressure on hospitals to keep up. It’s also locking many non-essential workers in their homes, preventing them from working and shopping. Riot’s contribution is a good counterpoint to thetimeline of GameStop’s response to the virus.

Good on Riot games for giving its city some much needed help in this time of need, in spite of thechanges the virus has made to the gaming industry.
