The beta forRed Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer counterpart,Red Dead Online, has begun to roll out to the excitement of many. This online components gives players everything froma small Battle Royale modeto some long-desired character customization options. However, one aspect of the game that some are having issues with is getting gold bars.
For those to yet enter the beta, gold bars are the premier in-game currency, with most of the best content costing multiple gold bars. However, to get just one gold bar,Red Dead Redemption 2players need to complete multiple activities (deathmatch, races, etc.) and quests to unlock gold nuggets. The overall conversation rate is 100 nuggets to get one gold bar.
To complete this conversion, it appears that this grind could take players upwards of 8 hours. Mathematically, the aforementionedRed Dead Redemption 2activities take ten minutes to complete and reward players with between .02 and .04 gold bars (2-4 nuggets). Assuming the full length and the smallest reward, that means it’ll take about 50 games onRed Dead Online-that is, 8 hours and 20 minutes- to unlock a single gold bar.
Many are taking issues with this rather lengthy grind. For example, one player noted that he would need to playRed Dead Redemption 2for 40 hours a week over three weeks to unlock a decent horse. Of course, this is also complicated by the fact that upcomingmicrotransactions will include the ability to purchase gold bars, but since those aren’t live yet, pay-to-win accusations haven’t become rampant.
To be fair, though, it’s worth mentioning that this online component is still in beta. If dissatisfiedRed Dead Redemption 2players make their voices known, it seems likely that Rockstar would increase the gold nugget reward, but that rests solely on the shoulders of the gaming giant.
