Warning: This article includes SPOILERS for Squid Game!
The potential Front Man spinoff ofSquid Gamecould bring back one fan-favorite character in an exciting way. After three seasons, the Netflix hit show Squid Game has come to an end, wrapping up Gi-hun’s story in a heartbreaking but logical way. However, the main show ending doesn’t mean that the franchise is done. Netflix has already announcedseason 2 of the reality TV showSquid Game: The Challenge, which will premiere on June 13, 2025.
When it comes to non-reality TV options,American Squid Gamehasn’t been officially confirmed by Netflix or Hwang Dong-hyuk, but it feels all but certain at this point. There are also rumors about apossibleSquid Gameprequel focused on the Front Man. Of the three, I’m most excited about the possibility of the Front Man spinoff. Not only would it answer big questions about Hwang In-ho, but it could bring back another fan-favorite character from the original show.
Gong Yoo’s Recruiter Could Return In A Front Man Prequel
The Recruiter Is One Of Squid Game’s Most Popular Supporting Characters
Unlike most of the other characters in Squid Game season 3, the Front Man’s story didn’t receive closure. They gave a small flashback to his experience as a contestant, answering the question ofhow In-ho won Squid Game. However, there are still so many other questions.
Since a prequel focusing on him would take the character back many years, the show could also tie in other characters like Captain Park and, more excitingly, the Recruiter.
New Squid Game Season 3 Detail Hints That The Recruiter & Front Man Likely Knew Each Other
The Recruiter, Captain Park, And The Front Man Could All Know Each Other
The Front Man prequel including the Recruiter actually would make a lot of sense because Squid Game season 3 hints that the two knew each other. Inside Captain Park’s house, Woo-seok sees multiple photos on the wall. He focuses on the photo of the Recruiter and Captain Park together on the fishing boat. However, another photo on the wall is significant.
A separate photo shows Captain Park and In-ho together on the boat. While it isn’t necessarily the same day, the photos do hint that the three all knew each other. On top of that, Captain Park had a Pink Soldier uniform, and the Recruiter was previously a Pink Soldier, offering an obvious explanation of how In-ho would know both of them.
Why Bringing Back The Recruiter In A Front Man Prequel Is Perfect?
There’s So Much More To Explore With The Recruiter
If the prequel is going to bring back any character besides In-ho, the Recruiter seems like the prime choice. The fan-favorite character’s backstory is also shrouded in mystery. They give some details about theRecruiter’s background inSquid Game, butthey could still flesh him out alongside In-ho. It would also be entertaining to see the sadistic and manipulative man in the setting of the games.
Every time we see the Recruiter, it’s out in the normal world. He has a calm and kind side when interacting with potential recruits, but he is bloodthirsty when interacting with Kim Jeong-rae and Choi Woo-seok. It’s not clear whether he always had a dark side or the games hardened him to the violence and death. Both seem like equally likely possibilities, and I’d love to find out the answer in the Squid Game prequel.
