While the game released to mostly-positive feedback, it has received its fair share of criticisms. Popular Twitch streamer and YouTube content creatorMoistcr1tikal pointed out how intensePokemon Unite’s pay-to-wincan be, spending upwards of $100 to improve items held by his Pokemon. While future updates created a less-strenuous experience on players' wallets, Nintendo and TiMi Studio plan to move ahead with a paid monthly membership for its users. The game will remain free to download and play on the Switch and mobile devices, but players will have the opportunity to spend a little extra to gain perks and items.
Along with the announcement of the membership, a newPokemon UniteBattle Passwill feature Blastoise and Charizard, unveiling brand-new Holowear for both characters along with some Cherry Blossom-themed items to celebrate Japan’s Cherry Blossom Festival. On April 28, a new Event Mission will hit the game and gives players a chance to obtain new Holowear for Eldegoss and Trevenant simply by collecting flowers while performing tasks, and a new Ranked Battle Season will commence with new Mamoswine Holowear. As of May 7, the first Saturday of every month will be Pokemon Unite Day, an event that allows players to use all Pokemon for free, and Holowear will be on sale, along with an increase in Aeos Coins and Aeos Energy from battles.
