A few weeks ago, it was confirmed that Nintendo mobile game partnerDeNA was making aPokemongame. At thePokemonpress conference at May 28, that mystery game was officially revealed to bePokemon Masters, a brand new mobile game for iOS and Android devices that stars all Pokemon trainers from the core games.

Pokemon Masterswill allow players to team up with and take on famous Pokemon trainers “past and present” as well as their partner Pokemon. In the short trailer, we saw Brock with his Onix, Misty with her Starmie, and Blue with his Pidgeot, as well as some other trainers. Battles inPokemon Masterswill be 3v3 affairs, though further details are unavailable at this time. It did look to be turn-based, however.

While somePokemonfans may immediately write offPokemon Mastersbecause it’s a mobile game, it’s worth pointing out that the idea was actually thought up by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori, for the uninitiated, is credited as the co-creator ofPokemon, and designed the original 151 Pokemon.

Further details onPokemon Mastersare unavailable at this time, but that will change soon. It’s been promised that more information onPokemon Masterswill come in June, though an exact date in June hasn’t been revealed. It’s possible that the game will be showcased atNintendo’s E3 2019 presentation, though Nintendo has typically reserved E3 for more traditional games instead of mobile titles.

Whether or notPokemon Mastersis at E3 2019 or has its own presentation, fans can look forward to learning more about the game next month. WheneverPokemon Mastersis showcased, hopefully we have the chance to learn more about its combat system, as well as any other features that it will be bringing to the table.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see ifPokemon Mastersis as successful as past mobilePokemongames. Past games likePokemon GOand to a lesser extentPokemon Questhave both been hits, so perhapsPokemon Masterscan replicate their success. We will know when the game launches later this year.

Pokemon Masterswill launch later in 2019 for iOS and Android mobile devices.
