Since the the disastrous live event in Chicago, Niantic and its popular mobile gamePokemon GOhave turned things around with its fanbase thanks in large part to the introduction of legendary raids. This past month saw the three legendary birds Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres headline these special events, but with August now at an end, the developer is bringing three new beasts into the spotlight. However, it appears that catchingthe new trio of Suicune,Entei, and Raikou will be even tougher this time around.
Thanks to an update toPokemon Go’sGAME_MASTER file, fans have found that Suicune, Entei, and Raikou all have capture rates of 2%, which will make them more difficult to catch than Lugia, Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres. While the number isn’t so great, players will be able to increase those chances to 16% however with the help of curve ball bonuses, using razz berries, and accurate throws.
At the timeLugia and Articuno were introduced, these Pokemon also came with an extremely low 2% base catch rate as well. Niantic eventually raised that number to 3% after announcing the three birds would be individually appearing over the course of three weeks. Considering it was available through the entire month, Lugia did not see the same base capture rate increase, maintaining its low 2%.
Part of the reason Niantic is sticking to the lower rate is that Suicune, Entei, and Raikou will be available for a longer period of time. Each Pokemon will take up residence in a different region across the globe for about a month before moving to a different one. Helping the odds of catching one of these Johto specific Pokemon is that a major raid glitch thatprevented players from catching a raid bosswith their last premier ball throw is now fixed.
