The next update forPokemon GOis bringing a lot to the table, with the highly desiredfriends and trading systemsfinally coming to the game. However, a recent datamine of the update also shows a number of other additions to the game, with one of the smaller, sneaked-in additions seemingly confirming the game’s next Community Day event.
Pokemon GO’snext update will add a starter exclusive move, with its sound effects and animations, to the game. Fans of the franchise will recognize this move as Hydro Cannon, which was first introduced in generation 3 as a move that could only be learned by a fully evolved Water-type starter such as Feraligatr.
However, in this particular case, it would appear this move was added for Squirtle’s final form, Blastoise. Currently, the exact damage output of the move has yet to be learned, but it will likely be similar to Charizard’s Blast Burn or Venusaur’s Frenzy Plant. It’s also extremely likely to be the exclusive move for the upcoming Community Day event.
Rumors and theories have long suggested that Squirtle would feature the next Community Day event, so the addition of this move to the game’s code seemingly confirms this; however, it’s worth mentioning that Niantic has yet to issue an official confirmation at the time of this writing. Notably, though, not every fan is excited about this event, with a solid portion of thePokemon GOcommunity clamoring forCommunity Day to include the sunglasses variant of Squirtle.
Sadly, though, that doesn’t seem too likely, as the datamine uncovered all of theAlolan form sprites, but it didn’t find any new sprites of Squirtle. Of course, this addition could come later since the next event doesn’t take place until Sunday, June 06, 2025, giving Niantic plenty of time to consider the community’s pleas. After all, who wouldn’t want a Sunglasses Blastoise with Hydro Cannon?
