Pokemon GOis one of the biggest mobile games of all time, and now it will be crossing over with one of the biggest anime/manga series of all time. It’s been announced thatPokemon GOwill be having a crossover event with none other than the long-running, pirate-themed animeOne Piecelater this month, giving fans a limited time to get some exclusive content.
From July 22 to July 29,Pokemon GOplayers have the chance to catch a special Pikachu in the wild that will be wearing Monkey D. Luffy’s signature straw hat. Not only that, butPokemon GOplayers will be able to get a specialOne Piece-style straw hat for their Pokemon trainer avatar as well.
Meanwhile,Pokemon GOplayers that live in Kumamoto, Japan will have an extra bonus to look forward to once thisPokemon GO/One Piececollaboration goes live. A statue of Monkey D. Luffy will be in Kumamoto that features exclusive artwork byOne Piececreator Eiichiro Oda, and will function as a special, limited-time PokeStop.
For those wondering whyPokemon GOis doing a crossover event withOne Piece, it’s all being done for a good cause. Last year, an earthquake hit Kumamoto, and so thePokemon GO/One Piececrossover is being held to support the city and and help it rebuild.
ThePokemon GO/One Piececollaboration isn’t the first crossover event that’s been in Niantic’s popular augmented reality game. Just a couple of months ago,Pokemon GOhad acrossover withDetective Pikachuto help promote the film. This too included a special, limited-time Pikachu, this time in the form of a Pikachu wearing a detective hat. However, whereas detective hat Pikachu could only be found using the snapshot feature, it seems as though straw hat Pikachu will simply appear in the wild.
Meanwhile, thePokemon GO/One Piececollaboration isn’t the only special event that fans have to look forward to this month. In fact,Pokemon GOplayers currently have the chance tofight Armored Mewtwo in raidsand add the rare legendary Pokemon to their collection. Armored Mewtwo is leavingPokemon GOon July 31, though, so fans that want one will need to act fast.
