One of the most exciting features inPokémon: Legends Z-Ais the return of Mega Evolutions, or powerful temporary battle forms of iconic Pokémon. When reacting to a Mega Stone, certain evolved Pokémon can go even further beyond, becoming far stronger with striking designs. WithLegends Z-Alikely to introduce never-before-seen Mega Evolutions, there are some established ones that should still return.

There will likely be new Mega Evolutions for thethree starters ofLegends Z-A- Totodile, Tepig, and Chikorita.Expect to see a Mega Emboar, Meganium, and Feraligatr in the near future, with unique typings like the evolved forms of starters fromLegends Arceus. Plenty of new Mega Pokémon have a chance to appear inLegends Z-A, but I still want to see some past forms reappear within this upcoming title.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Sceptile

10Mega Sceptile

One-Of-A-Kind Forest-Fueled Dragon

One of the best Mega Evolutions fromOmega RubyandAlpha SapphireisMega Sceptile, theGrass/Dragon-type formed from the starter Treeko. Hoenn already had some of the best starters in the series, with Mudkip, Torchic, and Treeko all being fan-favorites. So, naturally, each received a Mega form when their games were remastered alongside the mainline Generation 6 gamesXandY.

While Mega Blaziken and Mega Swampert are also excellent evolutionary transformations, I believe Mega Sceptile is the most unique. Mega Sceptile is one of three different Grass and Dragon dual typings to exist inPokémon, with Alolan Exeggutor and the Applin lines sharing that special type spread.Mega Sceptile could open the door for the rest of the Hoenn starter Mega forms, while being a powerful Pokémon players could have on their team.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Diancie

9Mega Diancie

Fairy Jewel As Resilient As Stone

Mega Diancieis another former Mega Pokémon that deserves a spot inLegends Z-Afor how distinct it is from other Mega Evolution forms. Most Mega Pokémon are intimidating or fierce, but as a Fairy-type,Mega Diancie carries a certain grace other Mega forms typically don’t have. Similar to Mega Gardevoir, which is already confirmed inLegends Z-A’s growing roster, Mega Diancie’s visuals would help it stand out.

Furthermore, Mega Diancie is also a Rock-type, bringing forth a sturdiness that players would want to seek out for their teams. This Pokémon was only available inOmega RubyandAlpha Sapphirethrough an exclusive event, so many players haven’t had the opportunity to see this creature’s Mega Evolution much anyway. Without any limited-time restrictions,Legends Z-Acould mark the first time many players evolve Diancie into its rare Mega form.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Scizor

8Mega Garchomp

The Sinnoh Dragon Sand Shark Is A Fan-Favorite

Few fans ofPokémongames will fail to recognizeMega Garchomp, the twin-bladed Dragon/Ground-type from the Sinnoh region.Garchomp has long been a fan-favorite Pokémon, as it was featured as the strongest creature on Champion Cynthia’s team in multiple titles. While this sand shark has been on many trainer’s teams, it rarely becomes a stale pick for those looking for a reliable powerhouse.

Dragon and Ground-type moves have some of the highest Attack and Special Attack power, respectively, in mostPokémongames. Since Mega Garchomp is a stronger form of a Pokémon specializing in those types, it is often one of the strongest creatures players can have when included.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Sharpedo

Garchomp’s Mega design follows the"if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it"mentality, only changing the arm blades on the pocket monster. Mega Garchomp features huge, scythe-like blades that are far bigger weapons than the small fins and claws on its base form.HavingLegends Z-Afeature the evolutionary line of Garchomp is just a choice that makes sense, considering how many will clamor for this Pokémon if they are not inlcuded in the game and its Mega evolutions.

7Mega Scizor

Buzzing Claws Of Speed And Strength

Mega Scizoris another overlooked Mega Evolution compared to Mega Aggron, Steelix, or other Steel-types with Mega transformations. This could be due to howScizor itself is often a rare evolution to get a hold of, sometimes only growing from a Scyther when you trade it holding a specific item. Despite the arduous process it takes to get a Mega Scizor, its unique Bug/Steel-type properties are singular among Mega evolutions.

As a personal favorite Pokémon of mine to play inPokkén Torunament DX,Scizor and its Mega form are defined by sharp speed and brutal attacking power. This goes hand-in-hand with the traditionally defensive Steel-type, creating a glass cannon whose only real weakness is Fire. With Mega Scizor having increased power like all Mega forms, players will want the chance to use this Pokémon in battle.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Alakazam

6Mega Sharpedo

Aquatic Water And Dark Glass Cannon

WithLegends Arceus' open world, the wilderness of the past held many natural landscapes with water, but the urban setting ofLegends Z-Amay cast doubt on aquatic Pokémon likeMega Sharpedofrom returning. While there will likely be some areas of freshwater, the presence of the sea might not make up the game’s open world. With perhaps limited availability of sea-based Pokémon, this makes Mega Sharpedo an important inclusionforLegends Z-A’s biodiversity.

The saw-like blades and old battle scars on Mega Sharpedo create the strongest form of the Dark/Water-type, whose battle prowess is similar to Mega Scizor’s. However, Mega Sharpedo acts more like a glass cannon, with high Speed and Attack but very little Defense to speak of. As a more niche pick on trainer teams,Mega Sharpedo helps balance out the inclusion of Mega Gyarados, giving players multiple Water/Dark-type Mega options.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Beedril

5Mega Aggron

Pure Tank That Sheds Its Main Weakness

Mega Aggronis one of the few Mega Pokémon forms that actually drops a type rather than gain a new one when it transforms. Instead of swapping out an existing type and keeping two,Aggron goes from a Steel/Rock-type to pure Steel, removing some key weaknesses along the way. Mega Aggron no longer takes super-effective damage from Water, Grass, or Ice-type moves, making it far more defensive than it was before.

As a pure Steel-type, Mega Aggron is still vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, and Fire-type moves. However, without its additional Rock-type, Ground-type attacks like Earthquake no longer deal 4x super-effective damage once Aggron Mega evolves.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Metagross

This alonemakes Mega Aggron a unique inclusion inLegends Z-Afor its resilience, which other Steel-type transformations like Mega Scizor and Mega Steelix don’t have. Aggron, on its own, was already a defensive juggernaut and one of the Hoenn region’s most prominent new Pokémon. As a popular evolution too, Aggron being in the game would be well-received, especially if its Mega form is included with it.

4Mega Alakazam

Wisened Psionic Mainstay With Additional Strengths

Next to Mega Mewtwo’s two Mega forms,Mega Alakazamis an often underrated evolution, despite having an incredibly cool design. In my opinion, the additional spoons, huge beard, and levitating body make Mega Alakazam resemble a wizard from a fantasy novel, easily winning my approval a favorite Mega Evolution. With these striking visuals,Mega Alakazam could be an evolution that stands out with fantasy vibesin a moretechno-sci-fi city seen inLegends Z-A.

As the Psychic-type Pokémon that defined the type in Generation 1’s Kanto region,Alakazam is another fan-favorite that should return based on its iconic status alone. While not quite a pseudo-Legendary like Mega Garchomp, Mega Alakazam was an evolution that first had players buying into the concept, so it should get its flowers through a return in a modern title.

3Mega Beedril

Triple Stinger Form Validates An Underutilized Pokémon

Mega Evolutions sometimes give weaker Pokémon new chances to shine, andMega Beedrilis the perfect example of that philosophy. This classic Bug/Poison-type from Kanto is sometimes the first fully evolved Pokémon some trainers get in older games, but its strength is far behind those of other pocket monsters players eventually get.Through a Mega form, Beedril’s strength grows immensely, giving it a place in teamswhere it normally would be forgotten.

Mega Beedril’s appearance is also a perfect step up from its usual final formtoo. The elongated stingers on its arms are matched with two new ones, with its main abdominal stinger becoming almost the size of a large drill, ready to pierce through the competition. This fierce look of a Pokémon, mostly viewed as a pushover, reignites my love for a creature I’ve desperately tried to make work on a team before, making Beedril’s Mega evolution incredibly compelling.

2Mega Gengar

Playful Ghost With A Terrifying Mean Streak

Mega Gengarwas an initial Mega Evolution that is as iconic as Mega Charizard for how different it makes Gengar look. Mega Gengar is almost double in size from its original evolution, with growing spines on its arms and back, with the former seeming to mold into something ethereal and powerful. Featuring a scary third eye on its head,Mega Gengar transforms the Pokémon from a playful ghost into a creature with a menacing aura.

As of this time of writing, several leaks have been made regarding which new and returning Mega Evoultions will be coming toLegends Z-A. On that list, Mega Gengar is expected to return, but there has been no confirmation from any trailer or official source.

When most players think aboutMega Evolution inLegends Z-A, Mega Gengar feels like a Pokémon that should automatically be part of the conversation. Not only is the Ghost/Poison-type similar to Mega Alakazam as a pioneer of its type from the Kanto region, butMega Gengar feels like the prototype that many Mega Evolutions attempt to follow. As a result, it only makes sense for one of Pokémon’s strongest Mega designs to make it into the series' next major game.

1Mega Metagross

The Supersteel Supercomputer That Works On Any Team

Metagross is from my favorite evolutionary line of Pokémon, so, naturally, I would love to seeMega Metagrossreturn inLegends Z-A. Despite my personal bias though,Mega Metagross comes from iconic Pokémon that have been notoriously hard to capturein previous games. Beldum has one of the the lowest catch rates in the series, making it hard for trainers to capture and train a Metagross in nearly every game.

The often grounded Steel/Psychic-type Metagross begins to levitate when it Mega evolves, using its four legs like claws to emphasize a more aggressive form. Metagross' colors change too, becoming a brighter cerulean, with its facial plate turning bright yellow for a distinct look. As a pseduo-Legendary, MegaMetagross is a Pokémon a ton of fans adore, ever since they got the one-of-a-kind Beldum from Champion Steven for the endgame ofRuby,Sapphire, orEmerald.

Along with its cool factor, Mega Metagross is incredibly balanced in battle, acting as a perfect blend of offense and defense that works on almost any team. Like Mega Garchomp, this level of utility makes the iconic Mega form a great inclusion forPokémon: Legends Z-A, and would be a tragic one to skip when bringing back other powerful transformations.
