There have been a lot of long journeys for channels over the years in YouTube, and one of the longest has been that of Felix Kjellberg, known to many as PewDiePie. Despite posting new videos nearly every day for a decade, PewDiePie is now taking a break from YouTube.

In a recent announcement, PewDiePie declared that he would betaking a break from his YouTube careerstarting in January. While the break did not start for some time, leading many fans to wonder if he had been trolling them, PewDiePie did release a video today in which he declared he was officially starting his break. The video, titled “It’s been real, but I’m out!” was declared by PewDiePie to be the final one he would be releasing before his break, with most of it dedicated to reading memes in his subreddit. This marks the first true hiatus for PewDiePie in years, and the first major break in his daily upload schedule in all that time.
With a schedule like that, PewDiePie’s weariness of his work on YouTube becomes very easy to understand. There have also been several incidents more recently that may have prompted this break, as they have no doubt taken a toll on PewDiePie’s mental and physical well-being. His misfortune began at least as far back as October, when his wife and fellowYouTuber Mariza was injured during their honeymoon.
While Mariza recovered from her injury just fine, this was not the end of the couple’s troubles, nor PewDiePie’s online woes. The next few months saw PewDiePie’s videos get banned in China for his support of the Hong Kong protests, anda break-in robbery of his house.
With all this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that PewDiePie wants to pull away from his rigorous upload schedule for a bit, and while it’s still not clear how long the break will last, it is clear that he will be out of the spotlight for a some time. Along with the recentdeletion of PewDiePie’s Twitter account, it seems he will be pulling out of the online scene in a big way. Only time will tell how much of his fan base will stick around for the possibly long hiatus.
