A few months ago, Overkill Software finally gave fans a look at its upcomingThe Walking Deadgame byhighlighting one of its playable characters, Aidan. The studio resumed its radio silence since then, but has now released a new developer diary that reveals one of the game’s levels, Georgetown.
In the newThe Walking Deaddev diary, various developers from Overkill Software detail the work that has gone into creating its Georgetown level. The studio is utilizing environmental storytelling to help create a level that “feels safe” enough that players let their guard down, only for them to be attacked by a surprise zombie lurking around the corner.
A lot of care has been put into making sure the post-apocalyptic look is accurate and consistent withThe Walking Deadin other media. It appears as though Georgetown will feature familiar locations for fans of the franchise, like a dilapidated grocery store, messy apartments with clear signs that people were preparing to evacuate, and streets lined with partially destroyed cars.
Unfortunately, this first developer diary doesn’t bring much in the way of concrete details on the upcoming game. For example, it’s still not clear if Overkill’sThe Walking Deadis open world or a more linear game with distinct levels. It’s been suggested in the past that the gamemay have base building elements, which could mean that players will visit locations like Georgetown repeatedly to gather supplies, even if it’s not a totally open world experience.
Hopefully more details on that front come in future developer diaries. The next developer diary, though, will actually focus on zombies and how players will contend with hordes of the undead, which could potentially mean that players will get their first glimpse of actual gameplay footage of the long-gestating project.
Overkill’sThe Walking Deadwill launch in 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
