When the firstResident Evilcame out, the producers chose a rare route for an introductory sequence: they performed it inlive action. The result was pretty cheesy, though it did deliver some scariness, too. More than 20 years later, however, the sameResident Evilfootage hasn’t aged well as a horror product. Recognizing how ludicrous it all seems now, one fan of the series has turned the infamous live action intro into a 90s-inspired sitcom intro.

In the original game, the characters are introduced over the span of a few minutes with a quick action scene, which even includes some cheesy limb props and a fog machine that was pushing as hard as it could. The end result is something that was campy even in the 90s, but has turned into the stuff of legend now.

Thanks to the sitcom edit, horror fans are now greeted with upbeat sitcom tones instead of a dramatic backing. It doesn’t help that each character has an almost dating profile-esque moment in front of the camera, with time awkwardly slowing to reveal either awkward smiles or traditional cool-guy moments. The originalResident Evilmay be a timeless classic, but one has to admit the intro lends itself well to a sitcom vibe.

Of course, interest in the 1996 version ofResident Evilhas risen this year with the announcement that Capcom wants to bringResident Evilgames to the Nintendo Switch. Last week, the company confirmed thatResident Evil 0, 1,and4wouldfind their wayto the portable platform on May 21st. Unfortunately for Nintendo fans, the newResident Evil 2remake won’t be coming to the platform - though it’s already available for those with a PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.

TheResident Evilseries is far from the first property to get the sitcom treatment, withWatch Dogs 2having been remixed with theFull Houseintro a few years ago. That being said, it’ll be tough for fans to find any video content that would fit a 90s sitcom intro more thanResident Evil 1.Actually, that’s probably a good thing.

Resident Evil 0, 1,and4will release on May 21st for the Nintendo Switch.
