One of the largest and most surprising announcements of thePlayStation E3 2018 press conferenceis a sequel to 2017 hitNioh.Nioh 2was announced with a short cinematic trailer featuring glowing red demons, intense-looking samurai, and what looked to be a portal into hell. No release information or supported platforms were revealed as part of theNioh 2announcement, though it can be assumed that Koei Tecmo is publishing.
Further into the trailer, two short text messages are displayed on-screen: “Defy Death,” followed by, “Death Defies You…” These messages could just be in reference to theDark Soulsmechanicof collecting currency from defeated foes and losing your currency upon your own death. But it’s more likely in reference to how the character shown in the trailer is murdered by demons, but is brought back to life through his own transformation into a demon.Nioh 2will likely explore this character’s resurrection and demonic curse through the game’s story and themes.
A particularly important detail was noticeable in the trailer, despite its brevity: the blonde-hairedNiohprotagonist William was nowhere to be seen. The only human character featured in the trailer was a wounded samurai with black hair, shown when his helmet was sheared off. This samurai, who was speared with two demon-like horns that he pulled from his head, appears to be the new protagonist. At least, that makes sense given theNioh 2logo features the two horns prominently. Will William remain in England forNioh 2?

If Team Nina shows up during Nintendo’s E3 2018 press conference on Tuesday morning to show off a newWarriorsgame akin toHyruleorFire Emblem Warriors, they’ll have one of the best line-ups of announcements for the convention this year.
Nioh 2has no currently announced release window or supported platforms.
