These days, in an age where video game information is almost exclusively online, the classic video game magazine is gradually fading away and thefew remaining gaming publications are starting to shut down. But the medium isn’t dead just yet, and the success of a Kickstarter for a fan-made Nintendo magazine called Ninty Fresh this week is proof of that.
Meant to serve as a callback to the days of Official Nintendo Magazine andNintendo Power, Ninty Fresh is designed to provide readers with a similar mix of features, interviews, reviews, and more, much of which was made with the help of people who actually worked on those magazines. It originally debuted back in June with the Kickstarter campaign for its first issue, which managed to surpass its modest goal of $2,500 to collect a grand total of $19,900, and now it seeks to replicate that success with a followup issue.

It took the first issue three days to meet its goal, but the second has broken that record with ease. TheKickstarter campaignreached its initial $3,200 target just 45 minutes after going live yesterday and has amassed $10,663 in crowdfunding as of this writing, meeting three of its stretch goals in the process. With this money, the group behind Ninty Fresh will be able to guarantee that the issue will be at least 100 pages long and include a double-sided poster.
Issue 2 of Ninty Fresh is targeting a November release, but in the meantime, there are a couple more stretch goals that remain to be reached for thevideo game magazine, consisting of a $15,000 goal that will add an art print from French artist Oskunk and a $20,000 goal that will expand the issue by 16 more pages. In light of how much money the campaign has made already, it’s likely these will be met too.
