Several weeks ago,Square Enix announced plans to sell IO Interactive, which ultimately put the future of theHitmanseries in flux, as the publisher could possibly retain the rights to the stealth-action franchise and cause to the developer to be unable to continue to create materials for the now-episodic game. Despite this unfortunate set of circumstances for IO Interactive and the series, it looks as if new content is still on the way for title, with the developer having announced a plethora of scheduled goodies today.
As seen below in the schedule for June,Hitmanis set to get a big boost in content this month in the form of Escalation Contracts, Featured Contracts, a new Elusive Target, as well as a game update for all platforms. The first piece of content will arrive on June 2 with two Escalation Contracts–one in Sapienza (Landslide) and another in Bangkok–dropping beside 10 new Featured Contracts, with each one having been created by the game’s community and hand-picked by the developer for inclusion in the update.
Later in June, IO Interactive has confirmed that there’s even more content to come forHitman, with Elusive Target #25 being the next-to-last one released, and it and will arrive inthe location of Hokkaido, Japanbefore June is over, with the White YukataSpecific timings and the first visuals to come out later this month. Not to mention, there’s a mandatory game update that hits later in June that IO Interactive promises to detail sometime later with full patch notes.
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s quite possible that this update for June could be signalling that theHitmanfranchise will continue unimpeded and be handled by IO Interactive for the foreseeable future. After all, it was recently confirmed in financial documents from Square Enix thatthe publisher was prepared to sell its rights to the gamealongside IO so that the studio can continue its work on the series. So, with the developer likely deeply into the development of Season Two, fans can only hope that theHitmanseries doesn’t get terminated.
Hitmanis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
