A production detail for the upcoming entry in the Legendary Monsterverse titledGodzilla X Kong: Supernovastrengthens the case for one of the movie’s most popular villain theories. Set to release in 2027 with an all-star cast already lined up,Godzilla X Kong: Supernovawill be the sixth movie in the monster-filled cinematic universe.

Godzilla X Kong: Supernovawill mark the third instance in which Godzilla and Kong will need to (begrudgingly) work together, and withthe subtitle “Supernova”they may be in for their biggest threat yet: a cosmic villain even more powerful than Ghidorah. While there areplenty of theories involving SpaceGodzillla, Gigan, or Hedorah, it remains to be seen who the two Alpha Titans will face off with.

Likewise, very few plot or character details have been revealed this far in advance of the movie’s release, production onGodzilla X Kong: Supernovais already well underway.Small teases like set photoshave yielded theories about where the narrative might go and who the villains might be, but the latest detail from the movie’s production could be a major clue.

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova Has A Strong Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Connection Now

The Builds A Stronger Case For A Space Villain’s Origin

The latest filming location forGodzilla X Kong: Supernovais Moab, Utah. There are other key locations around the globe that the movie has or will film in, including Mexico City, Mumbai, and London among others. Utah is one of the only U.S. locations the movie is supposed to film in, and it has a deep-cut connection to the Monsterverse that could be extremely relevant forSupernova.

In the Apple TV+ showMonarch: Legacy of Monsters, during the present-day (in the show) narrative, the Utah outpost is where the first readings of the Vile Vortices, the portals between the Hollow Earth and the surface world, are logged and identified by Monarch’s Dr. Barnes. She is picking up a portal opening from Alaska, but her analysis is what matters.

Dr. Barnes notes that the portals containradiation that is only supposed to exist in pulsars, which she quickly defines as “supermassive black holes in outer space.” The implication is that the portals could operate the same way as black holes do, which could explain how a cosmic villain arrives on Earth.

Whether it’s SpaceGodzilla or an original Legendary Titan, the groundwork has been laid for a cosmic villain inGodzilla X Kong: Supernova. The movie shooting in the location where black hole energy was first identified in the Monsterverse feels like it isn’t a coincidence, and strengthens the case for disruption at the claws of a fierce villain not of the Earth.
