While filmingNCIS: Tony & Ziva, one of the spinoff’s stars turned down the help of an intimacy coordinator on the set. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’sNCIScharacters(and fan-favorite couple), Tony and Ziva, return in the Paramount+ action drama series. The show begins with them raising their daughter in Europe, but they’re quickly forced to go on the run.

While speaking withTVInsider, de Pablo admitted thatNCIS: Tony & Zivadidn’t have an intimacy coordinator (the intermediary between actors and production). They manage intimate scenes, typically those of a sexual nature that sometimes feature nudity. They ensure that the actors are comfortable while filming these scenes. However, theNCISspinoff didn’t have an intimacy coordinator. De Pablo explained:

“Did not need one. They asked me first, I think because I’m a female and blah, blah, blah, and I said, ‘I don’t need one. Thank you for offering’ … Michael and I have a lot of trust with each other and are great friends. So, when it comes to shooting these things, we don’t want to be micromanaged. We like to explore it, and we trust each other enough that we allow that to happen.”

What Cote de Pablo’s Comments Mean For NCIS: Tony & Ziva

The NCIS Spinoff Will Still Have Intimate Scenes

Although de Pablo declined an intimacy coordinator when asked if she needed or wanted one, that doesn’t mean thatNCIS: Tony & Zivawon’t have any intimate scenes between the two leading characters. In fact, it’s the opposite.TheNCIS: Tony & Zivatrailereventeases some rather close moments featuring Tony and Ziva(despite the spinoff seemingly beginning with them not being together).

Tony and Ziva are, without a doubt,NCIS’s most popular couple. Their slow-burn romance in the original CBS military police procedural show is one of the most iconic, talked-about of its kind on network TV. As such,it wouldn’t make much sense ifNCIS: Tony & Zivadidn’t feature at least a handful of intimate scenes between the duo.

De Pablo and Weatherly have worked together for a long time and trust one another. Consequently, the actress didn’t see the need for an intimacy coordinator.

Tony and Ziva might begintheNCISspinoffas single co-parents. However, as time goes on,Tony and Ziva likely won’t be able to avoid their blatant chemistry for very long, resulting in some cozy scenes between the two characters. Only time will tell how long it takes for them to get to that point.

Intimacy Coordinators Have Become More Prominent In Recent Years

In the past few years or so,intimacy coordinators have become much more prevalent in Hollywood.Plenty of productions that include intimate scenes call for the need of a specialist. That evidently wasn’t the case for the upcomingNCISshow, though.

De Pablo and Weatherly have worked together for a long timeand trust one another. Consequently, the actress didn’t see the need for an intimacy coordinator.
