Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eatermade an appearance at Konami’s Press Start presentation today, and, after seeing what it has in store, I can’t wait to finally play it.MGS Deltais a remake ofMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the earliest-set game in theMGSfranchise, and, in my opinion, tied withMGS2for the best - if not flat out the best. For me, its jungle setting, its James Bond pastiche, and its camouflage-based gameplay are such a treat. Crucially,Deltalooks like a pretty accurate modern adaptation of the original, with a few new twists.
MGS Deltaincludes one of the most important aspects ofMGS3-its willingness to get goofy. It could only have been borne out ofthe mind of Hideo Kojimain its unabashed nerding out over classic movies and video game tie-ins, even whenit veers into the controversial.Deltabrings all of that back in what has to be the most complete remake we’ve seen out of Konami yet - evenSilent Hill 2’s remake left certain things on the table. And even beyond all that fluff, it includes some new features that make it look like a great game.
All News Details For Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater From Konami Press Start
Updated Gameplay, Bomberman & Ape Escape Crossovers, Secret Theater, & More
Konami’s Press Start presentation onMGS Deltais primarily focused on gameplay, which has been lacking in all the footage we’ve seen from it previously. I’ll admit, it got me with the nostalgia bait right away -the new trailer begins with a rundown of all the game’s most iconic moments, including its gimmicky boss fights. Konami doesn’t skimp on the cartoonish-ness here - we watch as The Fury comes twisting down a narrow corridor in a blaze of fire, as The Pain summons a horde of bees to overwhelm Naked Snake.
We also see Snake and EVA speeding through the forest on their shared motorcycle, pursued by hovering enemy soldiers in aStar Wars-inspired chase sequence. Make no mistake - these are heart-pounding, high-octane moments, butthere’s an inherent camp to them that’s ported over accurately here.
The presentation then discusses the return ofMGS3’s Secret Theater cutscenes. These were originally created to showcase comedic, alternate versions of major story moments to show the game’s development team during the game’s wrap party, but the videos were later uploaded to the game’s official website, then made an official part of it with theSubsistenceremaster. Now, though,MGS Delta’s Secret Theater will be integrated into the game. Certain enemies will travel with canisters of film on their person - you’ll have to defeat or arrest them to unlock these secret cutscenes.
MGS Deltaalso includes new Secret Theater cutscenes.
Next, the presentation goes intoMGS Delta’s disguise system. This is nothing new, as the original game is all about clever use of disguises to keep Snake hidden, but Konami plays the hits once again. We see Snake in his gharial costume sitting with just his head out of the water, and spraying chemicals on an enemy while in his lab coat getup. Certain special costumes are only available through the Sneaking DLC Pack.
We also get a look atDelta’s Snake vs. MonkeyApe Escapecrossover mode, which we already knew about (but which I’m personally thrilled is coming back). However, this presentation also shows off another important feature:Xbox players will be able to access an exclusiveBomberman-inspired game mode, while theApe Escapecrossover will only be available on PS5 and PC.
What We Know About Metal Gear’s New Fox Hunt Multiplayer
Not Quite MGO
The presentation also went into detail onMGS Delta’s new Fox Hunt multiplayer mode. Multiplayer has long since been part of theMetal Gear Solidfranchise, but, with servers now down for the original games and no way to play them in more recent remasters likeThe Master Collection, multiplayerMGSmodes - collectively calledMetal Gear Online (MGO) - are now a thing of the past.
They won’t remain that way for long, though. With the release ofMetal Gear Solid Delta, multiplayer is coming back toMGSin an all-new form. This new multiplayer game mode is called Fox Hunt, and, while Konami kept quiet on most of the details, we do know thatFox Hunt will use disguiseas a major mechanic. Between that revelation and its name, I’m imagining almost a double-edged Prop Hunt sort of thing, where you have to hunt down a camouflaged enemy team while they’re also hunting you.
Either way, it looks fun, although I’m not sure it’ll have the same long legs as a more traditional multiplayer mode like MGO. Still, I’m excited to be able to playMetal Gearonline again in any form, so I’ll take what I can get.
Could This Be One Of The Best Games Of 2025?
MGS3 Looks Shockingly Complete
I’ve been hoping against hope for Konami to pull this remake off, and, based on the latest reveals, I’m actually pretty impressed.MGS Deltaseems to have something for everyone: like big, epic action games? You got it. Like a dose of silliness between heart-rending emotional moments and massive conspiracy revelations? You got it. Like playing online with your friends? You got it.
It’s complete in a way that most games today aren’t, and you may really see the roots of classicMGSin it. While newer live-service games likeFortniteaim to be entertainment platforms instead of single-focus games, they bloat their main menus with a plethora of modes that most players will scarcely ever touch. Other games release with just a single mode, and require players to pay for DLC to unlock additional features later. This one’s got it all at launch, though, which is something we don’t see enough of anymore.
If you’d asked me a year ago, I would’ve been a little more skeptical. Konami hasn’t exactly had the greatest track record in recent years, but, last October, everything changed for me. I was thoroughly impressed by how well Konami and Bloober executedtheSilent Hill 2remake, changing just enough to make it fresh for old fans while keeping the core concepts and memorable twists that made the original a classic. I’m confident now thatKonami knows how to make a good remake, and I’m curious to see how it’ll apply that knowledge toMetal Gear.
Besides that,MGS Deltaappears to be a very faithful adaptation of what’s often considered one of the bestMetal Geargames, if not one of the greatest games of all time. For that reason alone, I can’t wait to see what it has to offer. I’ve played and replayed the originalMGS3so many times that it’s gotten a little stale - I hope an HD remaster as complete asMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwill breathe new life into it, and bring it to a whole new audience.
