Marvel Rivals: King in Black#1, Written By Paul Allor; Art By Nico Leon; Collected Edition Available October 2025 From Marvel Comics
Taking its cues from the latest season ofMarvel Rivals, theKing in Blacktie-in comic will feature an eclectic mix of break-out characters from the game, while telling a similar story about the return of Knull, the “god” of the symbiotes and eponymous King in Black. According to the full synopsis released by Marvel:
When a galactic vacation goes awry, our beloved heroes – Jeff, Rocket Raccoon, Thing and Squirrel Girl – find themselves on the symbiotic shores of Kylntar, home of the symbiotes! As allies are transformed, their darker halves join the side of the symbiote-bonded Hela, and her growing symbiotic army! Only two heroes are capable of defeating this growing menace: Blade and Phoenix! But with their forces scattered, can the daywalker and the mutant psychic pull their friends out of this Klyntarian nightmare?
Though he has beenpart of Marvel lore for a very short time, relative to iconic villains like Galactus, Doctor Doom, or Magneto,Knull has become a beloved antagonist in his own right. Less than ten years out from his debut, Knull has already appeared on film, inVenom: The Last Dance, and in multiple video games, now includingMarvel Rivals.
Similarly,Marvel Rivalshas taken Jeff the Land Shark from relative obscurity to super-stardom practically overnight, while also giving characters like Squirrel Girl their long-overdue mainstream recognition. So, it is fitting that many of these characters take the spotlight in the latestMarvel Rivalscomic arc, along with powerhouses likeFantastic Four”sThingandX-Men’sPhoenix.
