Following a reveal-packed 25-minute showcase, Nintendo has been releasing additional news through its ongoing livestream. The largest bit of information to arrive from the stream arrived in the form ofMetroid: Samus Returns, but the company has since followed up that announcement with word that a remake ofMario & Luigi: Superstar Sagawill be arriving on the Nintendo 3DS this October.
Many Nintendo fans had actually begun anticipating aremake ofMario & Luigi: Superstar Sagaafter its existence was leakedby prominent dataminer SciresM, but the addition of a side story titledBowser’s Minionswas less than expected. Pairing the two together, this revamped take on the classic Game Boy Advance RPG is calledMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, and it looks to be a worthwhile revision of the original game.
As evident by the above trailer, this title appears to remain quite faithful to the GBA game it is based on. That’s all well and good for a newer audience that may have missed out on the fan-favoriteMario & Luigititle – which appears especially true since the game first arrived back in 2003 – Nintendo has opted to include an entirely new side story for those that are looking for a little more bang for their buck this time around.
Taking on the role of Bowser’s crew of baddies, players are tasked with taking out other forces to rescue the king of the Koopas from Fawful and Cackletta. It’s an interesting concept which should help to add another dimension to the events of the core game, and it runs with an almostPokemon-like dimension to the mix by having players recruit the Mushroom Kingdom minions to their cause. Well, it’s not quite like that series of games, but the comparison is quasi-applicable.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minionswill arrive exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on July 09, 2025.
