Mario Kart Worldhas been featured in numerous promotional broadcasts since its reveal in the original Nintendo Switch 2 teaser, providing more details about what to expect with each one. As for the most recentMario Kart World-centered Direct, Nintendo showcased more information about racers, courses, and most importantly, items.

While several fan-favorite items will be returning,Mario Kart Worldwill also feature a handful of new itemsthat will help players adapt to other changes in this installment and cause even more chaos on the track. Additionally, several of the returning items appear to have received small adjustments as well to make them better suited for this 24-racer madness.

All Items & Power-Ups In MK World

Classic MK Items Will Be Back To Wreak More Havoc In Mario Kart World

As players might’ve expected, a large majority of theitems fromMario Kart 8 Deluxewill be returningtoMario Kart World. The most notable exclusions are things like the Crazy 8, which was unique toMario Kart 8and replaced a similar item fromMK 7, the Lucky 7.

For a complete list of everything returning fromMario Kart 8 Deluxe, as far as we know, please see the list below:

Keep in mind that while these mostly operate the same, some may have received small tweaks to accommodate them to the new game. For instance, Red Shells can now follow racers onto rails, Lightning only affects the players in front of you and appears to have a smaller impact duration, and the Bob-omb will now explode players who hit it while being held without affecting the holder. These are just a few of the changes gleaned from some of thepreview footage shared by Nintendo, but there’s likely more that will be revealed onceMK Worldformally launches in June.

What Items Are New In Mario Kart World

MK World Is Presenting New Ways For Racers To Make Their Way To First Place

In addition to all the returning items fromMario Kart 8 Deluxe, there are also a couple of entirely new items, as well as a few returning items that haven’t been seen inMario Kartfor a while now. It’s also worth noting that, in general, the method of holding items haschanged fromMario Kart 8 Deluxe. InMK World, items will now be auto-held upon running through the item boxes, and more importantly, falling off the track will result in the total loss of all your items.

Unfortunately, the latter will primarily hurt newer players who are still learning the ropes, but this change was likely decided on as a result of the increased 24-racer roster, as rarely losing items would result in hoarding and potentially overwhelming certain players in an already fast-paced game. For a list of the items new inMario Kart World, please see the table below:

Item Description

Coin Shell

A golden shell that will lay out a path of coins for you to collect.

Ice Flower

Like the Fire Flower, but Ice, this item will allow you to throw Ice Balls at your enemies, freezing them temporarily.

Feather

Allows players to jump into the air, avoiding items targeting them. Can even be used to avoid the dreaded Spiny Shell, with precise timing.

Hammer

Gain the ability to throw numerous hammers and hit your opponents. Hammers remain on the track briefly after landing, also creating roadblocks.

Mega Mushroom

Use the Mega Mushroom to enlarge yourself and squash your opponents.

Kamek

Transform your rivals with the power of Kamek’s magic. Opponents will be turned into random enemies, which will also cause that enemy to spawn onto the track, causing chaos all around.

WhileKamek and the Coin Shell are technically the only entirely new and exclusive items toMario Kart World, the rest have not been seen in several years and were absent fromMario Kart 8 Deluxe’s traditional races, which is why they are being considered new forMK World.
