Mario Kart 8 Deluxehas sold one million copies on the Nintendo Switch in three days, according to an analyst. Nintendo previously confirmed that the racing game has setday one franchise sales records.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Nintendo Switch version of the popular Wii U racing game, has sold one million copies according to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad. Earlier this week, the analyst revealed thatMario Kart 8 Deluxehad sold one million copies during April 2017 and becomes one of few that had sold one million copies during Q1 2017, joining horror titleResident Evil 7,Ubisoft fighting gameFor HonorandPersona 5which is also a new addition to the one million sellers list.
This updated sales figure for the new version ofMario Kart 8is impressive as it means that the game, which was released worldwide on April 28, managed to sell one million copies across the globe in just three days. While interest in the game had grown in recent months, with fans excited for the return of features likemultiplayer game mode Balloon Battle, the rate of sales for the game is surprising.
The original version ofMario Kart 8is the best-selling game on the Nintendo Wii U. While the Wii U isn’t exactly a hugely popular console, fans of the Mario racing series have had a chance to play that game for quite some time and so the fact that a re-release of that game on a brand new console has sold this many copies is unprecedented. And with Nintendo Switch sales at 2.4 million units (approximately), it also means that almost half of the owners of the new console also own a copy ofMario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The huge success of the racing game may be bad news for those trying to pick up a copy of their own - in shops at least - but Nintendo will be popping the bubbly. The more people who ownMario Kart 8 Deluxemeans that more people will be enthusing about it and the new console it has been released on, which results in a positive cycle. Plenty of gamers will now buy - or consider - buying a Switch out of sheer curiosity, potentially fuelling extra sales for the console in the coming weeks and months.
