Instead ofLandman, Taylor Sheridan’s next show might be the realYellowstonereplacement. Taylor Sheridan is the TV mega-producer behind shows likeYellowstone,Mayor of Kingstown,Special Ops: Lioness, and more, and his filmography continues to expand at an unprecedented rate withfutureYellowstonesequels.
On the schedule for later in 2025 isLandmanseason 2, following up on a show that was widely dubbed as “the nextYellowstone” due to its numerous similarities. Despite being in a different setting and covering a different industry, Taylor Sheridan’s common character archetypes and dramatic patterns establish a similar feel.
The Madison Looks Even More Promising Than Landman
Listen, I had a ton of fun watching and writing aboutLandmanseason 1, but I’mall in onThe Madison. The premise sounds fascinating, especially given its contradictions toYellowstone, and the cast also looks spectacular. It’s exciting to think that this series could offer a career-defining role for Michelle Pfeiffer, an actress who’s appeared in so many iconic movies.
Landmanis a beneficiary of Billy Bob Thornton’s show-carrying charisma, but my biggest critique of season 1 was its lack of an ensemble.Yellowstoneworked as well as it did because the series had a plethora of compelling characters, and could weave between multiple arcs successfully at its peak.
Landmanhas some fantastic actors in its cast, but the material they were given in season 1 wasn’t on par with Billy Bob Thornton’s. The majority of the scenes without him lacked the same spark. Given that Paramount+ has alreadyrenewedThe Madisonfor season 2ahead of its first season’s release, I’m expecting it will be something special.
I’d be amiss in my responsibilities as aLostfan if I didn’t share a moment of celebration for Matthew Fox. This is going to be his first major show in years, and I’ll be thrilled to see what he brings to the table in theYellowstonefranchise, armed with Taylor Sheridan’s writing, which is almost certainly going to be the best dialogue of his career.
The Madison Is Directly Related To Yellowstone
What’s possibly the best part ofThe Madisonis that, not only is it building on the foundation ofYellowstone, but it sounds like a fascinatingly contradictory piece. TheYellowstoneDutton family sought to defend the land their family had held for over a century against wealthy, big-city investors and land developers.
The Madisonwill take an alternate route, watching as a wealthy New York family moves to Montana to establish a dynasty. The McIntosh family has the opportunity to be a captivating, fresh twist on the Duttons.Landmancould be an outstanding series for years to come, butThe Madisonhas greater potential.
