The chances of theDC Universetimeline having more than one version of Wonder Woman have skyrocketed thanks to one of James Gunn’s latest updates. TheDCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters"has multiple movies and TV shows in development, and Wonder Woman is one of the many heroes who are being reimagined for Gunn’s franchise.

As of June 2025,a newWonder Womanmovieis being written at DC Studios, which will bring the Themyscira heroine back to the big screen. However, while Diana Prince is set to be a crucial DCU player, she may not be the only iteration of Wonder Woman in the franchise.

Nubia Wonder Woman

In a new interview withPay Or Wait, Gunn was directly asked if Nubia - a character who has also held the Wonder Woman title in her history - could be making her arrival in the DCU. Without getting too specific, Gunn gave a very exciting answer about Nubia’s potential in the DCU, sharing the following.

I am very aware of Nubia. And yes we are very much talking about that and I want to have all sorts of people represented in the DCU and, yeah, you might be very happy in the not too distant future.

What James Gunn’s Wonder Woman Comments Mean For The DCU

While time will tell who will becast as Wonder Woman in the DCU, the fact that Gunn is more or less teasing that Nubia will be part of the Wonder Woman plans at DC Studios is a massive deal. Not only is it high time for Nubia to get her live-action debut, this would be a great way to make the DCU stand out from what the DCEU did with the Wonder Woman mythology.

Even though aWonder Womansolo film is in the early stages, it wouldn’t be shocking if Nubia were to be a crucial player intheParadise LostTV show. As Nubia has been reimagined in the DC lore numerous times, theWonder Womanprequel series could introduce her as a crucial player before meeting her in the present time.

For the time being,Paradise Losthasn’t been picked up to series yet, as it is still being written at DC Studios. However, assumingParadise Lostgoes forward,Gunn’s comment about Nubia fans being happy in the"not too distant future"could imply her hypothetical role in the DCU TV show.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Wonder Woman Comments

Whether or not it isParadise Lostor a different DCU project, hearing that Nubia is someone that DC Studios is actively looking to bring into the DCU is extremely exciting. As Nubia has never had her proper time to shine in either live-action or animation, the DCU could finally be the perfect time to let her be explored in these ways.

The idea of potentially seeing Diana and Nubia at the same time is also a solid way to allow the Wonder Woman canon to get a bigger spotlight, and expand out in some interesting ways. Hopefully, moreDC Universenews will arrive sooner rather than later about all the Wonder Woman projects from DC Studios.
